Hosted by Capital Library Beijing, Hello from Australia! isgratefully supported by Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund, with collaboration from the AustralianEmbassy, Beijing, Phoenix Publishing/Oriental Babies, Nanjing, Australian Publishers Association,Splitting Image and many Australian publishers, authors and illustrators.“ 来 自 澳 大 利 亚 的 问 候 !” 包 括 展 览 和 一 系 列 作 坊 活 动 , 由 Books Illustrated 及 项 目 经 理 NikkiAnderson 携 手 打 造 , 首 都 图 书 馆 协 办 , 并 得 到 澳 大 利 亚 版 权 代 理 公 司 (CAL) 文 化 基 金 的 支 持 。 活动 的 合 作 单 位 有 澳 大 利 亚 驻 华 大 使 馆 、 江 苏 凤 凰 少 年 儿 童 出 版 社 及 旗 下 的 《 东 方 娃 娃 》 杂 志 社 、澳 大 利 亚 出 版 业 协 会 、Splitting Image 公 司 , 还 有 一 众 来 自 澳 大 利 亚 的 出 版 商 、 作 家 和 插 画 家 。This exhibition celebrates the wonderful world of contemporary Australian picture books throughillustrations created by some of Australia’s most talented emerging and established artists. Their inspiringrange of styles and voices tell all sorts of stories, some are uniquely Australian, and many have universalthemes and flavour.It’s been exciting, as curators of this exhibition, to select images from very contemporary books – many ofwhich were still to be published at the time we made our selection! It’s also been a privilege to liase with the15 Australian publishers whose books were chosen to be represented in this exhibition. Their enthusiasmand passion can be seen in the end product – these 38 picture books.A focus of this exhibition is a selection of illustrations by each of the guest artists taking part in the 2013Australian Writers’ Week: Ambelin Kwaymullina, Anne Spudvilas, Ann James and Alison Lester, who isAustralia’s inaugural Children’s Laureate (along with Boori Monty Pryor). This is a special opportunity tohave them present and talk about their work.Picture books are created to share with young and old – and everyone in between. They are a unique formof literature, inspiring and imaginative, opening doors to art and literature across cultures and countries.
