began really exploring art in High School. I loved the way images or ideas take form<br />
I through all types of medium. I love the way colours blend and define each other. As an<br />
adult I enjoy painting as a way to relax from my busy days as an Early Childhood Educator<br />
and single mom. I usually paint for myself but would eventually like to have my artwork<br />
displayed in a gallery. I will have to stop giving it all away to family and friends first!<br />
Most often I use oil or acrylic paint on canvas. I really have no special techniques. I will<br />
just see a photo or a moment in nature and have to paint it. I just go with the flow and<br />
let the picture emerge until it is the way I saw or envisioned it. I usually paint sunsets,<br />
sunrises and nature views. I am<br />
currently working on my skills with<br />
watercolour and experimenting with<br />
other scenes.<br />
I painted this piece to show, that even<br />
though our ancestors were forced to<br />
leave their families and punished for<br />
speaking their language or practicing<br />
their culture, our culture is part of us<br />
and cannot be taken away. We will<br />
go against all odds and maintain our<br />
culture for our children to the best<br />
of our ability. We will honour the<br />
seven sacred teachings; love, respect,<br />
courage, honesty, humility, wisdom,<br />
and truth. Recently my family has<br />
connected with a long lost relative<br />
who is a great leader in the <strong>Aboriginal</strong><br />
community, Mrs. Elsie Basque. Upon<br />
reading more about my distant<br />
cousin I learned about all the things
