2006 Season In ReviewThe 2006 Lady Saints team had another outstandingseason as the squad received an NCAA DivisionII tournament berth. <strong>Limestone</strong>accomplished muchduring the year, as the squadwon the Carolina-Virginia<strong>Athletics</strong> Conference regularseason and tournamenttitles. Six players earnedAll-CVAC honors, six werenamed All-Region, and threewere named All-Americans.In addition, <strong>Limestone</strong> wasranked among the top 10 ofthe nation’s women’s lacrosseprograms for much of thespring, climbing to as high asNo. 5 in the IWLCA poll.<strong>Limestone</strong> started its seasonwith a four-game winstreak as the team got victoriesover Presbyterian, BelmontAbbey, Mercyhurst, andSt. Andrews. The Lady Saintssuffered their first loss of theyear to then-ranked No. 1 Stonehill, 12-8, in early March.However, the squad recovered to dominate, as it won itsnext three contests (includinga 21-0 shutoutagainst Regis) beforebeing edged by No. 6Lock Haven, 9-8.After the loss, <strong>Limestone</strong>returned to its winningways, defeatingfive conference rivalsas it aimed for the 2006CVAC regular season title,adding another shutoutto the record witha 21-0 win over Lees-McRae on April 4. However,the Lady Saintsperfect 8-0 conferencerecord was tarnishedafter a 13-12 loss to No.9 Queens on April 12.An 11-10 victory overPfeiffer at Saints FieldDefender Chrissy Grogg led the Lady Saints with 53 ground balls and 41caused turnovers as a freshman last season.The 2006 Lady Saints traveled to Lisle, Ill., for the 2006 NCAA Division II National Tournament.on April 15 clinched the regular season championshipfor <strong>Limestone</strong>. In the conference tournament on April22, the Lady Saints cruised pastSt. Andrews, 20-9, to advance tothe championship game, wherethe team beat Pfeiffer for thethird time, 10-8. In their finalregular season game, <strong>Limestone</strong>defeated Gannon, 11-5.The Lady Saints, ranked No.6 in the nation at the end of theseason, eagerly looked aheadfor their second appearance atthe NCAA Division II nationaltournament. The team traveledto Benedictine University inLisle, Ill., for the competitionheld on May 13-14. <strong>Limestone</strong>faced West Chester in the semifinals.The squad fought hard, butwas defeated by the Pioneers,10-8. The Lady Saints posted a16-4 overall record for the 2006season, the best in <strong>Limestone</strong>women’s lacrosse history.
