If one of the brake circuits fails, the 244 and 245 canstill be braked without increasing the tendency to skidand retain 80% of braking power. Moreover, it doesnot matter which brake circuit fails. They also have atendency to skid when their best circuit is out ofoperation.All Volvo 240 series cars are fitted with disc brakes aswell as relief valves which prevent the rear wheelsfrom locking up before the front wheels duringemergency braking. The unique triangle-split dualcircuit braking system provides you with 80% ofbraking even if one circuit were to fail. Directionalstability is maintained by both front wheels beingbraked simultaneously.I n most cars if one of the brake circuits should fail it isnecessary to press extremely hard on the brakepedal to operate the brakes. This is not true in aVolvo. All 240 series cars feature a stepped boremaster cylinder. This ensures that pedal pressuredoes not increase to any significant extent, even ifone of the circuits should fail.The Volvo test tracks are used not only to learn aboutcars, but also to investigate how a wide variety ofdrivers respond to critical situations on the road.If sudden changes of direction are required, the 240series still exhibits its exceptional road holdingcapabilities.Weight distribution is vitally important to handling androad holding. The 240 series has ideal weightdistribution between front and rear axles.
