NK SERIES ROUTING SYSTEMSRoss Video’s NK Series Routing Systems are a comprehensive family of routing solutionswith a wide variety of matrix sizes and types to choose from, a nice selection of flexible controlpanels and a powerful control system tying it all together. Whether it’s a small utility router or alarge mission critical facility system, the NK Series offer a solution to fit your needs and budget.NK Series Routers are available in sizes ranging from 16x4 to 320x320. Any matrix type canbe incorporated into a system with any combination of other NK matrices all united underone control umbrella.NK Series Routers have a long history and heritage having initially been created by well-knownAustralian design engineer, Joe Talia (and team). The team continues the inspired work on this routerline in Ross Video’s subsidiary, Ross Video Pty’s facilities in Melbourne, Australia. We hope you consider an NK Series Routing System for your routing needs. NK Routers representa great choice, are backed by a 5 year warranty, and are supported by the top-rated Ross Videoworldwide support organization.NK-3G144Feel free to visit www.rossvideo.com, contact us at solutions@rossvideo.com, or reachout to your local Ross Video sales representative or reseller. Thecompact design, and compelling price pointsmake these routers a great solution for a widevariety of applications from standalone singlematrix to larger multi-matrix systems.MID-SIZEMid-sized routers, 64x64 and 72x72 aremodular and expandable in groups of 8 inputsand 8 outputs. They include 3G/HD/SD SDI,AES/EBU Digital Audio and Stereo Analog Audiosignal types. These routers fill a unique niche ina demanding, yet price sensitive, segment of themarket. The modular design lends itself to futuregrowth and serviceability.LARGE FACILITYThe large NK-3G144 and NK-3G320 routersare scalable and designed to function in missioncritical, high availability environments. Eachuse a common set of I/O boards and can beexpanded in groups of 8 inputs and outputs toeither 144x144 or 320x320 depending on theframe size. These systems are fully 3G compliantand will pass 3G/HD/SD signals in addition toASI and SDTI. A key feature of these matrices issuperior redundancy. Both are architected to beequipped with fully redundant power supplies, dual redundant crosspoints and dual redundantcontrol cards.

Instead, each device operatesindependently and communicates with other NK Series devices over theT-Bus RS-485 communication network. T-Bus uses a highly reliable, fieldproven collision detection system to manage traffic on the network. Controlpanels, matrices and other NK Series devices are added to the T-Busnetwork in a daisy chain configuration. The NK-IPS Network Bridge offers 8 buffered T-Bus ports which provide away to isolate portions of the T-Bus control network as well as an Ethernetport which allows system configuration from a PC via a simple web page orthe Phoenix Control Surface. The Phoenix Control Surface is a graphical user interface for controland set up of all the NK devices. This software offers a more visual andcomprehensive ability to configure and monitor the system than is availablewith the web interface. The NK-VRC Virtual Routing Core enables virtual routing and resourcemanagement to an NK System, providing flexibility in how sources anddestinations are managed and the ability to select sources from differentrouter levels using external resources, such as format converters,ADC’s and DAC’s.Other control system components include serial protocol converter, GPIinterface, serial automation interface and interfaces to legacy Kondorsystems and control panels.

Eachpartition can be assigned to a unique or common switching level. As anexample, a single analog video matrix could be partitioned into 3 sectionsto switch YUV or RGB signals.CONTROL PANELSThe NK Series offer 3 highly flexible, yet simple and intuitive control panelsthat can be configured to operate as an X-Y, cut-bus or multi-cutbus panels.Every control panel in the system can be independently configured to meetthe needs of the particular operator position at which it is deployed.ROUTER PARTITIONINGThe example at top shows crosspoint assignments when a 32 x 32 routeris partitioned. NK-VRC Virtual Routing CoreVRCKey Features• Virtual routing controller• Provides virtual routing and resourcemanagement for any NK Series RoutingSystemNK-VRC• Allows physical sources and destinationsto be mapped virtually• Manages routing of signals betweendifferent router levels using externalresources• 1,000 virtual input mappings• 1,000 virtual output mappings• Front panel status indicators• Universal power supply included• Requires Phoenix Control Surface• Optional redundant power• 5 year warrantyOverviewThe NK-VRC Virtual Routing Core adds virtual routing and resource management to any NK Series RoutingSystem. Virtual routing and resource management is an important requirement in larger routing systems, especiallythose with multiple levels.Virtual routing provides the ability to assign physical sources and destinations to virtual sources and destinations.Without the NK-VRC, tied switching of sources and destinations will always switch the same physical inputs andoutputs across multiple routers. The NK-VRC enables a more flexible setup where the sources and destinations donot have to be identically connected across multiple levels.Additionally, the NK-VRC enables resource management or path finding in an NK Series Routing System. Resourcemanagement enables routing of signals between different router types (such as analog and digital). This is done byusing resources to convert between one format to another (such as an analog to digital converter).Resource management simplifies the operation of a router system by routing signals through a resource from onerouter to another, without having the user know which source and destination the resource is connected to. Onceconfigured, the system will be able to automatically find the path between routers.Multiple resources can be managed to enable more than one signal path between routers.Ordering InformationNK-VRCVirtual Routing Core DeviceNK-VRC External Redundant PowerNK-P1 Spare or Redundant, 50W, +15V External Power SupplyNK-DRY Y Cable for two NK-P1 External Power SuppliesNK-VRC Rack Mount Redundant PowerNK-RP1/P Rack Mount, 1RU, 100W, +15V Redundant Power SupplyNK-S12/P NK-RP1/P Power Supply Cable for NK-VRC40 | NK Series Routing Systems
