Asian Federation of CatholicMedical Associations(AFCMA)The Asian Federation of Catholic Medical Associations (AFCMA) is one of six regionalorganizations (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Oceania) of theInternational Federation of Catholic Medical Associations (FIAMC). The idea of formingthe AFCMA was brought up at the 8th Congress of the FIAMC in Brussel 1958 amongthree Asian participants, Dr. Mariano Alimurung of Philippines, Dr. Yasuro Anno ofJapan, and Dr. Ly-Trung Dung of Vietnam.The aims of the AFCMA are (1) to coordinate the efforts of Catholic Medical Associationsin the study and spread of Christian principles throughout the medical profession ingeneral; (2) to encourage the development of Catholic Medical Associations in allcountries of Asia; (3) to take part in the general development of the medical professionand to promote health and social work in accordance with Christian principles; (4) torepresent the views of Asian Federation of Catholic Medical Association to FIAMC and (5)to study and report on the problems which confront the Catholic medical professional inAsiaThe AFCMA Congress was first held in Manila in 1960. It was held every two years until1964. Then the Congress was held every four years.
