Country Report : Korean Federations of Catholic N4edical AssociationsThe history of Catholicism in Korea is held to have begun in 1784 when LeeSeung Hun was first baptized. At present, there are over 4.9 million Catholjcs inKorea (about 9.7% of the population), and 15 dioceses including threearchdioceses. Korea has the fourth largest number of saints since 1984 by nation.Korean Federations of Catholic Medical Associations (KFCMA), founded at 1968,is national federation of catholic physician's guilds at each diocese in Korea, andover 1000 physicians are participating as active members.Major activities of KFCMA at the nationalevel include annual general meetingand two-days live-in-retreat, supporting foreign medical mission activity byCatholic Health Associations of Korea (CHAK, in joint participation of KFCMA andother associations including catholic hospitals, nurses, and hospice), andparticipating in FIAMC & AFCMA. In addition to the monthly or bi monthly prayermeeting, charity clinics are actively operated at the diocesan level.During the country report reports of 15th World Day of the sick in Seoul (2007),activities of KFCI'.4A at the national and each Diocesan level, overseas medicalmission activites by CHAK, and activities in charity clinics (especially the RaphaelClinic for foreign immigrant workers and St. Joseph Clinic for poverty) will bepresenreo.
