This year we had a recordbreaking MCM team with over 70 athletes thatincluded Freedom Team members from Balboa NavalHospital and Walter Reed, Achilles members fromSouth Florida and Brazil, and many local athletes fromthe DC area. Fortunately everyone had a wonderfulracing experience even as Superstorm Sandy’s windsbegan to take their toll towards the end of the day.Events included a welcome pizza party, pre-race luncheon,and pasta party held at the Arlington Fire Station5. Thank you to our presenting sponsor Investin America and our generous sponsor U-HAUL formaking this weekend possible!Comedy, a troop of military veterans, performed for allthe guests. Marathon morning was awesome as GMhad a special tent for the team stocked with food andbeverages. Freedom Team member Tom Davis tookfirst place in the handcycle division!After the race, the team was ableto relax and enjoy a private screeningof “Argo” with unlimited popcornand treats. That evening the finalteam dinner was held at Detroit’sfamous Steve’s Soulfood wherecomfort food was a huge hit aftera long race day. Deepest thanksto everyone at GM who made thisonce-in-a-lifetime trip possible!2012 Army Navy GameGM sponsored many Freedom Team members whoare currently patients at Walter Reed to attend thehighly coveted Army Navy Game at Lincoln FinancialField in Philadelphia. Throughout the game, multipleChevy commercials highlighting the Freedom Teamaired on CBS. Achilles was also honored on the field tostart the game. GM provided the team with VIP seatsand a hospitality room that served delicious food andbeverages throughout the game. Most excitingly, GMCEO Dan Akerson announced at a press conference2012 Marine Corps MarathonOur weekend kicked off with a specialfundraising event hosted byUrban Country, a furniture store inBethesda, Maryland, that donatedfunds to the Achilles Freedom Teamfor this racing event. Lt.
