4CLUB SPORTS COMMITTEEThe <strong>Club</strong> <strong>Sports</strong> Committee (CSC) includes five permanent members and five studentmembers who are selected for two-year terms. Staff members (the <strong>Club</strong> <strong>Sports</strong> Director, the<strong>Club</strong> <strong>Sports</strong> Manager, the Department Coordinator of the Recreation Center, the CampusRisk Manager, and an additional faculty/staff member) maintain their membership for thelength of their employment at <strong>Rice</strong> Univeristy. New student committee members must bemembers of at least one <strong>Club</strong> Sport team. Applications for these positions are availableonline and are emailed to club presidents each year. The current committee members selectnew members during the spring semester.The primary responsibility of the CSC is the allocation of the <strong>Club</strong> <strong>Sports</strong> Budget.The CSC works with each club sport to assess and review their budget needs, provide advicefor fundraising and fiscal responsibility, and to allocate funds to each team. Studentrepresentatives spend a considerable amount of time at the beginning of the fall semestermeeting with team representatives to explain the budget process, review club budgets, andprovide non-partisan recommendations for allocation of the club sports funds. Secondaryresponsibilities of the CSC include, but are not limited to, selecting new members during thespring semester, petitioning the administration for reasonable budget increases, approvingnew club sports and changes in status of existing clubs, providing input on changes in <strong>Club</strong>Sport policy, and, in some cases, deciding appropriate punishments for clubs or clubmembers who violate <strong>Club</strong> Sport regulations. The committee meets several times throughoutthe year, especially during the fall during budget allocation.Each club is assigned to one of the five-committee members. The committee memberis the club’s contact within the <strong>Club</strong> <strong>Sports</strong> Committee. Members will contact clubpresidents and treasurer at the beginning of the fall semester to offer their assistance withbudget preparation.
