The exams in the CFA Program areconsidered some of the most rigorous in theindustry covering ethical and professionalstandards, tools for investment valuation,asset valuation and portfolio management.The <strong>Lewis</strong> MS in Finance will help studentsprepare for some of the most rigorous partsof the Level I exam.Students must complete a minimum of 36graduate credits in the program to earn theMaster of Science in Finance degree.Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA while inthe program. If the student’s GPA falls below3.0, there will be a grace period of onesemester after which the student must bringthe GPA up to the 3.0. The challenge now is to ensure thatcomputer systems are both secure and widelyaccessible. It is necessary to PROTECT the informationcontained in information systems and to PREVENTmalicious intrusion into them.Dr. Faisal AbdullahMSIS AcademicProgram DirectorThe MANAGERIAL CONCENTRATIONfocuses on the impact of informationsecurity on individual lives and personalprivacy, the growing information securityrisks facing business and government,strategies for securing information, and theinfluence of laws and public policy on howinformation is secured.The TECHNICAL CONCENTRATIONexamines how information systems can bemade secure. It discusses informationprocessing systems, secure operatingsystems and applications, network security,cryptography, security protocols, and otherissues that confront those charged withsecuring information networks.The managerial concentration is anattractive option for IT analysts, managersand directors who are responsible for, andinterested in, defining, auditing, orexamining IT security policies andprocedures. The technical concentration is ahands-on option that is attractive to ITprofessionals who are interested inidentifying security problems when andwhere they arise. Regardless ofconcentration, however, all students areexpected to gain a comprehensive overviewof the information security problem, onethat equips them to understand the wideranging,technical, legal, and managementissues involved.To accommodate the needs of workingprofessionals, the program is structured forpart-time students with courses offered inthe evenings and online. All courses exceptfor occasional weekend seminars are offeredin an eight-week format.Students must complete at least 35 graduatecredits in the program beyond the twofoundation courses to complete the MSISdegree. Each student is required to completethe six core courses, three concentrationcourses, one elective course, two one-credithourseminars, and a capstone course. Thetotal number of credits to fulfill therequirements ranges from 35 to 41 credithours, depending on the student’s academicand professional background. If a studenthas taken one or more of the core coursesbefore joining the MSIS program, thestudent must take other graduate classes thatare offered in the program to fulfill thedegree requirement.The Master of Science inInformation Security(MSIS) is aninterdisciplinaryprogram. This programis a cooperative effortbetween theManagementInformation SystemsDepartment inthe College of Businessand the Mathematicsand Computer ScienceDepartment in theCollege of Arts andSciences. Sixhours of equivalent graduatecoursework can be transferredinto the program.
