Nancy PickeringReasons to join Cali<strong>for</strong>nia <strong>Council</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Adult</strong> Education - Los Angeles Metropolitan Section• Because I am a member of CCAE, my voice in strengthened when combined with over three thousand members state-wide.• CCAE is the only organization that includes teachers, classified employees, administrators, counselors, and coordinators of adult education.• Established in 1943, CCAE has won the respect of elected officials, legislators, governmental agencies, and appointed officials.• CCAE sponsors legislation, through supportive State Legislators, and actively works <strong>for</strong> the passage of these bills.• The CCAE Lobbyist, Jeff Frost, and our representatives meet on a regular basis with other adult education groups to provide a united front.• We have members working at the CCAE Chapter, Section and State levels, to ensure adult education Legislation is passed.• CCAE Legislative Day in Sacramento allows our members to meet with each of the 120 State Legislators or their educational aides.• 1550 adult educators attended professional development activities at the CCAE State and Section Conferences this past year.• CCAE awards annual staff and student scholarships; recognizes and honors adult education employees <strong>for</strong> their excellence.• My CCAE dues are among the lowest of any professional organization. CCAE is a non-profit organization. All dues and fees are tax deductible.• CCAE is not overloaded with paid personnel. CCAE’s staff includes a 1/5-time Legislative Lobbyist, a 1/4-time Executor Director, one part-timestaff person to handle membership, and provides a small stipend to the Financial Manager. That’s it!• CCAE is run by member volunteers who organize the State and Section conferences and fill elected position at all levels of the organization.• CCAE activities and events are excellent venues <strong>for</strong> networking and sharing in<strong>for</strong>mation with other adult educators throughout the state.• CCAE Chapters are involved in supporting local adult school activities and social events.• The <strong>Adult</strong> Ed Administrator from CDE regularly attends the CCAE State Board meeting and State and Section Conferences, where there is anopen flow of ideas between CCAE and CDE.• CCAE provides leadership opportunities <strong>for</strong> members who otherwise may have the talent but not the opportunity to express that talent.Salary Deduction Card - continuedto the deduction amount previously authorized by me to arrive at a new total deduction.
