We finally got this thing tied down so . . .
On behalf of the California Council for Adult Education (CCAE) Central Section board and membership, it
is our pleasure to welcome you to the Great CCAE Round-Up for this important opportunity of professional
growth and fellowship among adult educators.
Our Conference Posse has worked feverishly to organize this conference to provide you with innovative ideas,
invaluable information, useful tools to enrich the educational experiences for our remarkable students, plus a
whole lot of fun!
Your ride begins with the President‘s (Sheriff’s) Reception on Thursday night. Daybreak, join us for the
Cowpoke continental breakfast and opening session, followed by four Round-Up sessions with the
Chuckwagon Luncheon and State Awards presentation. Capping off the day will be a delicious Bar-B-Que
dinner and Rip Snortin’ Hoedown Dance.
Finally, you will enjoy The Wagon Master’s Awards Breakfast, where the CCAE Excellence in Teaching and
Support Services awards will be presented. Breakfast will be followed by two more informative Round-Up
sessions.
Our Conference Posse invites you to learn from the variety of outstanding workshops, enjoy the festive
special events, and visit the array of informative vendors and exhibitors in the Peddler’s Wagon. So shine up
them spurs and pull up yer boots, it is time for the fun to begin!
Thanks to all of our sponsors, exhibitors, vendors, and presenters for their participation and commitment to
adult education, and to all the hardworking Central Section posse members who have worked tirelessly to
ensure that our guests have the best conference experience this side of the Pecos!
Hopefully as you leave us, it will be with new friendships, a heightened sense of commitment and
professionalism, and a renewed dedication to Adult Education.
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR CCAE STATE PRESIDENT
Chris Nelson, Oakland Unified School District, Adult & Career Education
A Big “Howdy” to the CCAE Annual
State Conference for 2012!
It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you to
our annual conference. This year we are
gathering for the ―Great CCAE Round-up‖.
Your conference planners have put in a
tremendous amount of time and effort to make
sure that you have a productive, informative
and fun experience in Fresno.
Over the past three years we have endured
significant fiscal challenges. Many adult
education programs have been cut or closed.
Our adult learners need us now more than ever as they continue to try to access our
vital services throughout the state to achieve their educational goals.
Even in these difficult times, it is still essential to keep up your professional
development, learn new strategies and take them back to your staff in order to
improve instruction and learning outcomes for your students. There is an old
proverb that says ―You‘ve got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your
grandfather was‖. Here is your opportunity to do your own growing but as always
in Fresno, we will make sure you have a rootin‘, tootin‘ good time along the way.
My special thanks to your conference co-chairs, Sally Fowler and John Ballinger
and your conference planners Larriann Torrez, Lisa Grider and Susan Guzzetta and
the rest of Central Section‘s posse in making this a special event.
Please stop me and say ―howdy‖ throughout the conference.
The Sheriff’s Star Spangled Suggestions On How to Make the Best of Your Visit to the Wagon
1) PLAN YOUR TIME WELL Take a few moments before each day to review the exhibitor list and prioritize
those that offer the product or service for which you are looking. Any first time
something brand new . . . Check them out!
2) COMPARISON SHOP Take notes on how products compare with their
competition in the Peddler‘s Wagon. Review how they stack up
against your current suppliers at your school or organization.
3) ASK QUESTIONS Take advantage of the opportunity to talk to an
expert. Ask questions on how a product relates to your particular
needs. Ask for price quotes.
4) CHOOSE CAREFULLY Don‘t make hasty decisions. Review your
notes once you return to work to determine the purchases that are
right for your program and students.
5) GATHER BUSINESS CARDS Take notes immediately after you visit.
