SECTION 4.CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION4-1 RECEIVER CIRCUITS• ANTENNA SW (MAIN-RX)RF signals from the antenna are passed through the LPF(L1, 2, C1, 3, 5) and antenna SW (D1, 46, L3, 4, C7~9), andapplied to the RF AMP (Q1).• RF AMP (MAIN-RX)RF signals from the antenna SW are passed through thetuned BPF (D4, L11, C15-17), and applied to the gate-1terminal of Q1 via C18. The amplifi ed RX signals are passedthrough 3-staged tuned BPF (D5-10, L12-14, C30-41) toremove unwanted out-of-band signals. The filtered RXsignals are applied to the 1st mixer (D21, L48, 49) andmixed with 1st LO to produce 1st IF signal.• 1ST IF CIRCUIT (MAIN-RX)The 1st IF signal from the 1st mixer is amplified by 1st IFAMP (Q8, 9), and filtered by the crystal filters (FI4, 5) toremove unwanted out-of-band signals, then applied to the IF<strong>IC</strong> (<strong>IC</strong>6).The 1st IF signal is mixed with the 21.25 MHz 2nd LOsignal which is generated by the internal oscillator and X3,to produce the 450 kHz 2nd IF signal. The 2nd IF signal ispassed through the external ceramic fi lter (FI6) to fi lter the450 kHz signal, then FM-demodulated by the quadraturedetector with the discriminator (X2).• AF CIRCUIT (MAIN-RX)The demodulated AF signals from the MAIN UNIT "DET"are passed through the de-emphassis circuit to obtain –6 dB/oct of frequency response, the AF signals are thenpassed through the BPF (Q11, 12, R32–40, C42–46), AFmute SW (Q13) and audio level adjustment VR (R1) beforebeing applied to the AF power AMP (<strong>IC</strong>3). <strong>IC</strong>3 amplifiesthe AF signals to obtain 5 W (max.) of audio output power.The power-amplifi ed AF signals are applied to the internal/external speaker via AF SWs.• SQUELCH CIRCUIT (MAIN-RX)A portion of the demodulated AF signals are applied to theDAC (<strong>IC</strong>) via C89 and adjusted its level, then applied tothe noise AMP. The noise AMP is composed by R164-166,C162, 163 and internal OP AMP, and amplifies the noisecomponents (around 30 kHz signals) only. • RF AMP (CH70-RX)RX signals from the CH70-RX antenna are passed throughthe tuned BPF (D20, L32, C401, 403), and applied to thegate1 terminal of Q7 via C404. The amplifi ed RX signals arepassed through the 3-staged fi xed BPF (L33-35, C415-420,422, 423) to remove unwanted out-of-band signals. Thefiltered RX signals are applied to the 1st mixer (D11, L18,19), and mixed with 1st LO signal to produce the 30.15 MHz1st IF signal.• DSC DECODER (CH70-RX)Demodulated AF signals from the IF <strong>IC</strong> (<strong>IC</strong>1) are passedthrough the BPF (<strong>IC</strong>3a, <strong>IC</strong>3b, R72-81, C103-109) to removeunwanted signals. The fi ltered AF signals are applied to theFSK demodulator (<strong>IC</strong>4) to decode DSC code, then appliedto the CPU (LOG<strong>IC</strong>; <strong>IC</strong>1). The CPU interpret that the appliedDSC code is expected one, then the CPU controls DSCfunction as programmed.• 1ST IF AMP (CH70-RX)The 1st IF signal from the 1st mixer is amplified by 1st IFAMP (Q3, 4), and filtered by the crystal filters (FI1, 5) toremove unwanted out-of-band signals, and amplifi ed againby another 1st IF AMP (Q2), then applied to the IF <strong>IC</strong> (<strong>IC</strong>1).The 1st IF signal is mixed with the 30.6 MHz 2nd LO signalwhich is doubled reference frequency signal generatedby internal oscillator of <strong>IC</strong>12 with X4, to produce the 450kHz 2nd IF signal. 4-2 TRANSMITTER CIRCUITS• TX AF CIRCUIT (AF UNIT)The audio signals from the connected microphone arepassed through the analog SW (M<strong>IC</strong> SW) and pre-emphasiscircuit (R73, C77) to obtain +6 dB/oct of audio response,then amplified by the M<strong>IC</strong> AMP (<strong>IC</strong>9b). The amplified M<strong>IC</strong>signals are amplified and amplitude limited by (<strong>IC</strong>8a), andpassed through the splatter fi lter to remove unwanted 3 kHzand high signals, then entered to the MAIN UNIT as themodulation signals "MOD."• MODULATION CIRCUIT (MAIN UNIT)The modulation signals from the AF UNIT are passedthrough the DAC (<strong>IC</strong>15) for deviation adjustment. The leveladjustedmodulation siganls are applied to the D37 of TXVCO for FM modulation.• DRIVER AMPThe output of the TX VCO is passed through the LO SW(D43), and amplifi ed by Q28 and Q30 to obtain input levelof the RF power module (<strong>IC</strong>13). Q37 controls the APCcontroller (<strong>IC</strong>14) with “TMUTE” signal to terminate TX, toprevent unexpected transmittion; when the TX power isrising, when the PLL is unlocked, etc.• RF POWER AMP<strong>IC</strong>13 is an RF power module which provides 35 W of RFoutput power with 50 mW input, and the output power iscontrolled by the voltage applied to pin 2.• APCThe voltage produced by the TX power is appeared on theboth sides of L89 is rectifi ed by D47 and D48, then appliedto the APC controller (<strong>IC</strong>14). The output voltage of <strong>IC</strong>14controls the gain of <strong>IC</strong>13 to keep the TX power steady.• ANT SW, LPF (Harmonic filter)The TX signal are passed through the ANT SW (D1, 46) andLPF. 4-3 FREQUENCY SYNTHESIZER CIRCUITS• VCOThis transceiver uses a VCO for both of TX signal RX 1stLO signals generation in common (TX/RX VCO), and alsohas an independent VCO for 1st LO for CH70-RX (CH70RX VCO). Switching D41 by Q21 and Q22, the oscillatingfrequency of TX/MAIN-RX VCO is shifted.The FM modulation is carried out by applying modulationsignals to D37. The output of TX/RX VCO is buffer-amplifi edby Q19, amplifi ed by Q15, then applied to the TX amplifi ersvia LO SW (D42, 43). A portion of the VCO output which areamplifi ed by Q15 and Q27 are applied to the PLL <strong>IC</strong> (<strong>IC</strong>12).• PLL<strong>IC</strong>12 is a dual PLL <strong>IC</strong> which contains prescaler,programmable counter, phase comparator and charge pump,and uses the 15.3 MHz signal generated by X4 and internaloscillator as reference frequency.The loop fi lter for RX VCO is composed by R217-219, C247,249, 278, and for CH70 RX VCO is R213, 214, 182, C248,225. Each loop fi lter locks the PLL in short time.The output from CH70 RX VCO is buffered by Q13, amplifiedby Q14, then applied to the 1st mixer for CH70-RX as the 1stLO signal.
