President Percy NaiduDermatological Society of South AfricaAshford House, 39 Ashford Rd.Parkwood 2193 Johannesburg SouthSOUTH AFRICAJune 29, 2010Re: Invitation to the <strong>ILDS</strong> Scholarship Program<strong>Dear</strong> President Percy Naidu,On behalf of the WCD2011 Organizing <strong>Committee</strong>, it is my pleasure to invite applications for the <strong>ILDS</strong>(International League of Dermatological Societies) Scholarship Program which will provide financial assistance to anumber of dermatologists from developing countries <strong>and</strong> leading young investigators who wish to attend the 22 ndWorld Congress of <strong>Dermatology</strong>, which will be held from May 24 to 29, 2011 in Seoul, Korea.Our goal is to provide approximately 400 educational scholarships, 145 of which will go to dermatologists fromdeveloping countries (Program 1) <strong>and</strong> 205 to residents <strong>and</strong> fellows (Program 2). The remaining scholarships will beprovided by third party organizations such as the American Association of <strong>Dermatology</strong> (AAD) <strong>and</strong> InternationalSociety of <strong>Dermatology</strong> (ISD). Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on recommendations from local <strong>ILDS</strong>member societies.Applicants will be categorized into three regions: 1) Asia, 2) Europe <strong>and</strong> Oceania, 3) Central & South America <strong>and</strong>Africa. The amount awarded to scholarship recipients will be USD 1,000 in Asia, USD 1,500 in Europe & Oceania<strong>and</strong> USD 2,000 in Central America, South America <strong>and</strong> Africa, which will cover accommodation <strong>and</strong> some travelexpenses. Economies are divided among income groups according totheir 2008 gross national income (GNI) per capita, calculated using the World Bank Atlas method.1


2) EligibilityEach applicant must be a member in good st<strong>and</strong>ing of his/her local <strong>ILDS</strong> society. In order to be considered,applications <strong>and</strong> paperwork must be received by the WCD2011Congress Secretariat by August 31, 2010.▪ Age Limit: 40 years of age at the time of the WCD 2011 (May 24, 2011)▪▪▪▪Applicants: Certified dermatologist (Program 1) or dermatologist in training: residents <strong>and</strong> fellows (Program 2)English language comprehension is m<strong>and</strong>atoryParticipation in at least one congress scientific activity such as a poster presentation <strong>and</strong>/or oralcommunication. Abstracts for oral/ poster presentations must be submitted to the Scientific Secretariat byOctober 31, 2010.All applicants must submit appropriate verification of their educational status.3) Application Requirements for Societies1 Recommend scholarship recipients matching with the number shown in the scholarship details table.2 Selected recipients must register for the WCD through the online registration system on the Congresswebsite (www.wcd2011.org). Each application must accompany the registration number <strong>and</strong> ID in order tobe processed.3 Regional societies must then send application forms along with official transcripts or dermatologistcertifications for each applicant no later than August 31, 2010 to the Congress Secretariat by e-mail.*Note: No payment is necessary at the time of registration.
