It is a highsolids,water-based compound engineered to provideexceptional adhesive and elastomeric properties forthe demanding firestop requirements of pipe, cable, sprinkler penetrations and construction joints in environmentssubjected to frequent expansion and contraction.FS 1900 is highly intumescent. It expands up to 7 times(700%) its original volume to fill the void created by themelting and burning of PVC, CPVC, cc-PVC, ABS,cc-ABS, PEX, insulated pipe, and plastic-coated cables.FS 1900 does not contain solvents. As a result, it is nottoxic and cannot damage plastic pipes or cable jackets.Physical PropertiesColorOdorVehicleWeightRed*Faint LatexWater-based10.0 lbs/gal(1.2 kg/L)pH 10-11Volume Expansion 700%Installation Temp. FS 1900 is Factory Mutualapproved and listed by Warnock Hersey. It hasbeen tested to and passed ASTM C719, Adhesion/Cohesionof Elastomeric Joint Sealant forCyclic Movement (UL 2079, Standard for FireTests of Joint Systems). In addition, the FS 1900is accepted by the city of New York (MEA), thecity of Los Angeles, and ICBO.Systems are available for: metallic and nonmetallicpipe, cable, conduit, cable tray and ductpenetrations through typical wall and floor construction;expansion joints; construction jointssuch as wall to wall, floor to floor, wall to floorand curtain wall; concrete, masonry, fluted deckand gypsum substrates; wood joist floor-ceilingand chase wall assemblies.ApplicationsFlameSafe ® FS 1900 is used to seal openings infire-rated structures where burning plastic pipe, insulated pipe, or coated cables may compromisethe rated system. It also can be used in busand HVAC ducts and through-penetrations withmetallic pipes and mixed penetrants. It is usedin conjunction with mineral wool boards in safingapplications to prevent smoke, fire and toxicgases from spreading through perimeter jointsand floor slabs, openings between fluted roofand floor decks, tops of fire-rated walls, woodjoist and chase wall floor-ceiling assemblies andother construction/seismic joints. See Figures1–4 for examples of typical details.FS 1900 is particularly suited for use in applicationswhere system vibration and buildingmovement are concerns.InstallationAll contact surfaces must be free of loose dirt, scale, oil or other foreign materials. Installationprocedures and material used may vary accordingto the size of opening being protected andthe type of penetrant. Material may be installedusing a standard or powered caulk gun, or troweledinto place using a mason’s trowel or puttyknife. FS 1900 is a water-based sealant thatdries through evaporation. Time required fordrying will vary according to environmentalconditions. When dry, FS 1900 remainselastomeric, indefinitely.
