Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, such diatribesserve only to arouse angry emotions by taking passages out<strong>of</strong> context and misrepresenting quotations. This paper is obviouslyan attempt to “round up <strong>the</strong> troops” and overwhelm andambush <strong>the</strong>se “younger scientists”. What is really needed in thisdebate is well considered science that critically analyzes <strong>the</strong> faunas(ammonoids, conodonts, fusulinaceans) and sequences in severalkey regions. My colleague, Shilong Mei and I have not attacked<strong>the</strong> reputation <strong>of</strong> any individual or group; we have onlyindicated that we question <strong>the</strong> current correlation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rupe delPasso di Burgio blocks <strong>of</strong> Sicily and correlative beds in Oman with<strong>the</strong> Wordian. If we have directly or indirectly insulted anyone,<strong>the</strong>n allow me to apologize now; it was not our intention. We are
