FOCOPE <strong>of</strong>fers a forum for debate <strong>and</strong> the exchange <strong>of</strong>views <strong>and</strong> important news. FOCOPE’s objective is todemonstrate the important role played by the constructionindustry in the economic <strong>and</strong> social prosperity <strong>of</strong>the Member States, as well as to promote partnershipswith countries that are not members <strong>of</strong> the EU. It alsostrives to develop a dialogue between the industry <strong>and</strong><strong>European</strong> institutions. A number <strong>of</strong> <strong>European</strong>parliamentarians attended the meetings.FOCOPE held two meetings in 2006 <strong>and</strong> four in 2007.In late 2007 FOCOPE established a separate platform forenergy issues.In December 2007 John Slaughter met MEP Guttièrezon behalf <strong>of</strong> UEPC to discuss soil-related issues.CEN (<strong>European</strong> St<strong>and</strong>ardisation Committee)37On 6 November 2006, UEPC took part in the CENconference on Environmental Technology Certification.Moreover, UEPC is represented in CEN technicalcommittees by J. Haynes who is secretary <strong>of</strong> the Design& Development Committee.Mr Haynes provides the liaison contact forCrime Prevention & CEN TC 325. He attended theplenary meeting in London as an observerfrom 15-16 May 2006.<strong>European</strong> ConstructionTechnology Platform (ECTP)Since November 2005, UEPC has confirmed itscommitment to the Advisory Group <strong>of</strong> <strong>European</strong> User<strong>and</strong> Client organisations in the <strong>European</strong> ConstructionTechnology Platform (ECTP). This organisation representsthe stakeholders <strong>of</strong> the built environment. L. Willeattended the first meeting on 25/01/2006. UEPC is keptabreast <strong>of</strong> ECTP activities through regular contact.EOTA (<strong>European</strong> Organisation forTechnical Approvals)UEPC has the status <strong>of</strong> observer within the <strong>European</strong>Organisation for Technical Approvals (EOTA). EOTA ismade up <strong>of</strong> technical approval federations in 17<strong>European</strong> countries. Here, John Haynes plays a veryactive role in representing UEPC.EPBD PlatformUEPC has applied for membership in the <strong>European</strong> BuildingPerformance Directive Platform (EPBD).ECCREDIUEPC took part in the ECCREDI conference entitled ‘StimulatingInnovation towards SMEs in the ConstructionSector’, which took place on 16 June 2006 in Brussels.UEPC <strong>and</strong><strong>and</strong> ItsPartnersUEPC is directly involved in the work <strong>of</strong> the <strong>European</strong>Construction Forum. The ECF is a platform forcooperating on issues <strong>of</strong> common interest between independentorganisations that represent key players in theconstruction sector. Participation is voluntary.ECF members includeACE (Architects’ Council <strong>of</strong> Europe)CEMBUREAU (<strong>European</strong> Cement Association)
