Forewordby the President5This year the European Union of Developers and HouseBuilders is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary. It is one ofthe oldest international trade associations in the EuropeanUnion and its history is intimately related to the ideaand development of a European community. Our organisation was founded in 1958 to facilitate anddeepen contacts between real estate developers fromvarious European countries. At the very beginning, itwas used mainly as a platform for sharing experiencesbetween its members. However, UEPC evolved over theyears, adjusting its structure and working model as theidea of an integrated Europe thrived and became morereality than dream.UEPC’s current structure allows its members to cooperateactively with European Union institutions andwith the public authorities of the various countries, andto play their own significant role in building a modern, united Europe. Our working committees, made up ofthe national representatives, have become vital workingplatforms for the main EU-related issues that influencedevelopers. The organisation is widely recognised inBrussels and has succeeded in having a positive impacton European policy.Over the past fifty years, UEPC has evolved from anorganisation created as a forum for the exchange of ideasto an organisation with a major agenda whose items areof great significance to members of the developmentindustry. From today’s point of view, it can be safely saidthat UEPC would have to be invented if it did not exist.I would like to thank everyone who has contributed tothe creation, growth, and success of this unique organisation, and it is my hope that the European Union ofDevelopers and House Builders will stay active as long asthe industry exists.Jarosław SzanajcaPresident of UEPC
