9In 1960, U.E.C.L. was granted corporate status by KingBaudouin of Belgium.In the years that followed, the registered office movedto Parochianenstraat 11 and later to Violetstraat 43 inBrussels, where it is located to this very day.A few years later, English was added as the third officiallanguage.In 1991, U.E.C.L. changed its name to UEPC (Unioneuropéenne des promoteurs-constructeurs/EuropeanUnion of Developers and House Builders/EuropäischeUnion der freien Wohnungsunternehmen) to reflect thefact that the members of UEPC had grown to include adiverse range of real estate developers of both residentialand non-residential properties.In 2007 the legal status of UEPC was changed to that ofan international non-profit association (INPA) to complywith current Belgian law.The purpose of UEPC was to unite Europeandevelopers in order to exchange experience, knowledge,and research, and to organise colloquia and cooperationbetween individual members in participating states.Today, through its national members, UEPC representsmore than 30,000 developers and businesses working inthe property development and construction industries.Their activities affect more than 10% of the gross nationalproduct and of total employment in Europe.Together they build and develop approximately1,000,000 new homes and several million square metresof office and retail space each year.UEPC is the umbrella organisation for the variousnational federations of real estate developers and housebuilders. The association is both recognised and wellrespected by the European authorities.UEPC does more than simply respond to EU initiatives.It is also a proactive organisation that identifies newand emerging issues and addresses them in a strategicmanner. In addition, the national federations also call onUEPC’s services and contacts to defend their interests atthe European level.
