For moreinformation, please contact theBlood Centerat 718.780.3644 ordonateblood@nym.org.Restricted Gifts can be made toa wide range of specialty services orprograms designated by the Hospitalas areas for support, consistent withthe donor’s personal interests.Memorial/HonorariumGifts in memory or in honor ofan individual may be made in anyamount and for any purpose. TheHospital will promptly notify theappropriate party of the memorial orhonorarium gift. Donations of $500 ormore can be permanently recognizedon the Tree of Life located in theHospital lobby. The Tree of Lifeoffers the opportunity to celebratejoyous occasions or remember aloved one with an inscribed leaf.Life Income Arrangementsvary, but most offer the followingbenefits: income for life to thedonor and/or second beneficiary, acharitable income tax deduction,a higher rate of return than manycurrent investments, reduction oravoidance of capital gains taxes andsavings on estate and gift taxes.Bequests, gifts made througha will, allow donors to makesubstantial donations to theHospital. Donors can leave specificdollar amounts or a percentage oftheir estate. Through a bequest,a donor can make a gift withoutdepleting current assets and caneliminate or reduce federal estatetaxes. If you have included NYM inyour will, please let us know.Corporate Matching GiftsIf your company or your spouse’scompany participates in a matchinggift program, the company willmatch any gift you make, sometimeson a three-to-one basis. If you arenot sure whether your companyhas a matching gift program, pleasecheck with your human resourcesdepartment.Assets to GiveA Gift of Cash is the simplestand most immediate way to give toNYM. Cash gifts may be pledgedover a period of up to five years andare deductible in accordance with thelaw. Checks should be made payableto New York Methodist Hospital.We also accept American Express,Visa and MasterCard.A Gift of Long-TermAppreciated Securities isexempt from capital gains taxes.In most cases, a donor can claima charitable income tax deductionequal to the fair market value ofthe appreciated securities.Gifts of Real Estate, in somecases, can be given to supportNYM, and the donor will receive acharitable income tax deduction forthe fair market value of the property.Real estate gifts also can be used tofund a life income arrangement.18
