Headlines are short, tell a little bitabout the article, and try to grab the reader’s attention.Articles1. Your first article should be your cover story. Start with a headline thenthe rest <strong>of</strong> the cover story will be a summary. It should include the authorand title <strong>of</strong> book and the: who, what, where, when and why <strong>of</strong> story. Be sureto include the main characters and the problem and solution <strong>of</strong> the story.Use your name as the reporter at the end <strong>of</strong> the story. Lastly, include ahand drawn color illustration to go along with the article.


2. The next article should be an article about an event that actuallyoccurred during this time period. Do some research about the time period inwhich your story takes place. You need to choose an actual historical eventfrom the same GENERAL time period as your story. For example in thestory we are reading in ELA class Toliver’s Secret you could write an articleabout the Declaration <strong>of</strong> Independence being written or one <strong>of</strong> the battlesin the American Revolution. A hand drawn colored illustration needs to gowith this article as well.3. Design a word search or crossword puzzle with 7 vocabulary words fromthe book. Choose one <strong>of</strong> the FollowingObituary: Choose either a character from the book who dies or a realperson from that period <strong>of</strong> history and write a paragraph obituary aboutthat person. Information to include inyour paragraph: date <strong>of</strong> death, age <strong>of</strong> death, how he/she died, informationabout his or her life, character traits and any important accomplishments.OrLetter to the Editor: Pick a topic at the time <strong>of</strong> your story which wascontroversial or argued about a lot. (ex. Civil war- slavery) write apersuasive letter to the editor stating your opinion on the argument and yourreasons for having that opinion.OrComic Strip: Create a comic strip <strong>of</strong> an event from your story.
