NIMFEATermészetvédelmi Egyesület – Túrkeve (Magyarország)Nimfea Environment and NatureConservation Association is an NGObased in Túrkeve, in the northern part of theHungarian Plain. It has been active for morethan a decade in the field of environmentalprotection and nature conservation.Within the framework of the BE-NATURproject, the association fulfills the leadpartner’s job and the role of the coordinatorof the white stork species group. In ourregion, the association carries out regularassessments of the storks. In spite ofthe popularity of this species, the whitestork population has been significantlydiminished; in many Western Europeancountries it has become extinct or withexpensive projects a minority of itspopulation could be saved.The current white stork population inHungary is only 1/3 of the sizeit was in 1850.In Hungary the white stork is speciallyprotected. According to the internationaldatabase of BirdLife Hungary the bird isin the Europe-wide endangered category(SPEC2). The centre of the spread is CentralEurope and one of the biggest stablepopulations of the stork is in Hungary(approximately 5,000-5,500 pairs, 4% of theworld’s stock).In most of western Europe, the stork hasbecome extinct or the population stronglyreduced, therefore the protection of thisspecies is a high priority of Hungarian natureprotection.A Nimfea Természetvédelmi EgyesületTúrkevén, az Észak-Alföldi régióban működőcivil szervezet. Az egyesület több mint 10éve aktív szerepet vállal a környezet- éstermészetvédelem terén. Az egyesület tölti bea BE-NATUR projekt koordináló partnerénekszerepét, és egyben vezeti a fehér gólyamunkacsoportot. Az egyesület folyamatosfelméréseket végez a térségben találhatófehér gólya állományról.Annak ellenére, hogy a fehér gólya nagyonnépszerű faj, az utóbbi időben populációjajelentősen csökkent. Sok nyugat-európaiországban teljesen kihalt, míg másholköltséges projektek keretében próbálják amegfogyatkozott populációkat megmenteni.Magyarországon a jelenleg élő fehér gólyapopuláció csupán egyharmada az 1850-esállományhoz képest.Hazánkban a fehér gólya különösen védett faj.A Magyar Madártani és TermészetvédelmiEgyesület (BirdLife Hungary) nemzetköziadatbázisa alapján a fehér gólya az európaiszinten veszélyeztetett kategóriába (SPEC2)tartozik. A gólyák elterjedési központjaKözép-Európában van és az egyik legnagyobbállandó populáció Magyarországon található(körülbelül 5000-5500 pár, a világállomány4%-a).Nyugat-Európa legnagyobb részén a gólyakihalt vagy száma jelentősen lecsökkent,ezért a fehér gólyák védelme kiemeltfontosságú Magyarország természetvédelmiintézkedéseiben.
