240MUS 278—COLLEGE ORCHESTRA IV 2-0-2The WCCC Orchestra is a collaboration of the community and studentmusicians who rehearse together to perform two concerts ayear. The repertoire ranges from the recognized orchestral monumentsto the less explored. Rehearsals are once a week for two andone half hours. The inclusion of semi-professional musicians fromthe community greatly enhances the artistic and educational experiencesof student participation in an orchestra. This course is designedfor all students who play orchestral instruments. Thisensemble provides students the opportunity to rehearse and performorchestra music appropriate for all instrumentalists. Therepertoire will include music literature from all music periods andstyles. There are no auditions to become a member. Students willsit in their section on playing ability. There are no auditions exceptfor solos or duets when needed.MUS 285—COLLEGE STAGE BAND I .5-3-2The <strong>Westmoreland</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> Stage Band is a collaborationof the community and student musicians who rehearsetogether to perform two concerts a year. Prerequisite(s): Must pass auditionNGT–NATURAL GAS TECHNOLOGYNGT 101—OVERVIEW OF THE NATURAL GAS 4-0-4AND OIL TECHNOLOGYA comprehensive study of the natural gas and oil industry. Topicsto be covered include industry sectors; history of natural gas andoil drilling, production, transportation, storage and transmissionprocesses; and environmental topics. Students will be required tocomplete the PEC Core Compliance safety program. Special focuson career opportunities in the industry.NGT 105—EMERGENCY RESPONSE FOR 1-0-1NATURAL GAS AND OILNatural gas and oil field jobsite are usually very safe, however thereis potential for emergency situations. This course will present thevarious emergency situations that may occur at a natural gas/oilexploration, production, transmission, storage, and/or distributionlocation. Students will learn the proper procedures for handlingthese situations. Real-world scenarios and past emergency situationswill be examined. Students must maintain a current HeartsaverFirst Aid: Adult/Child AED and CPR and Infant CPRdesignation.NGT 110—ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION- 2-1-2METHODS & DEVICES FOR NATURAL GASA study of the environmental practices molded in response to bestpractices, good neighbor policies and government regulations. Thiscourse is an introduction to the basic requirements for air quality,water resources protection/preservation and land use. Other practicesintended to preserve and protect the environment will also beexplored. There will be a focus on the methods and devices utilizedin the various facets of the natural gas and oil industry includingexploration, production, mid-stream, transportation, storage anddistribution. Students will learn the basics of the legal requirements,the responses expected when challenged with protecting the environmentand the consequences of not adhering to laws and regulations.Students will demonstrate their knowledge of the right way toprotect the environment in various industry situations by developinga protection plan and describing the implementation of the plan.NSG–NURSINGNSG 100—TRANSITION TO THE .5-1.5-2PN PROGRAMOffers the WCCC associate degree nursing student the opportunityto complete the additional hours necessary to meet the requiredhours of enrollment in a PA State Board approved practical nursingprogram. Enrollment in this course is restricted to WCCC NursingStudents who have successfully completed all Level I ADN Nursingcourses, but did not successfully complete a Level II Nursing course,thus requiring exiting from the ADN Program. Enrollment is thiscourse requires faculty approval for transfer into the Practical NursingProgram.NSG 110—INTRODUCTION TO.7-1.5-1 ADNNURSING AND HEALTH CARE.7-2-1 PNPresents an overview of the profession of nursing and health care.The five critical elements of the WCCC Nursing Program: caring,competency, communication, critical thinking and commitmentserve as the framework for this course. Concepts and issues relatedto each element are presented. Opportunities to investigate these issuestake place in the campus laboratory. Theteaching of related practice skills takes place in the campus laboratorysetting. The application of the basic care concepts and practiceskills occurs in various health care settings. The focus is on caring for individuals with alterationsin oxygenation, nutrition and elimination, safety and security,activity and rest, and psychosocial-sexual needs. Theopportunity to practice related nursing skills, including intravenoustherapy, is provided in the campus laboratory setting. Clinical laboratoryexperiences provide the opportunity for application in acutemedical surgical settings. Prerequisite(s): NSG 110, NSG 111 Corequisite(s):BIO 172, PSY 161NSG 121—BASIC MEDICAL SURGICAL 3-6-5 ADNNURSING CARE IN SELECTED SETTINGS 3-7.5-5 PNEmphasizes the role of the nurse as provider of care for adults withcommon well-defined health problems experiencing alterations inbasic human needs. The focus is on caring for individuals with alterationsin oxygenation, nutrition and elimination, safety and security,activity and rest, and psychosocial-sexual needs. Theopportunity to practice related nursing skills is provided in the campuslaboratory setting. Clinical laboratory experiences provide theopportunity for application in subacute and extended care settings.Prerequisite(s): NSG 110, NSG 111 Corequisite(s): BIO 172, PSY161, NSG 122NSG 122—MENTAL HEALTH CONCEPTS .5-1.5-1This course offers the student the opportunity to develop knowledge,skills and behaviors essential for providing care for individuals experiencingalterations in psychosocial needs and their families. Thefocus is on basic mental health theories, concepts and principlesthat provide the rationale for interventions to promote mentalhealth. The opportunity to develop and practice selected therapeuticcommunication skills to promote mental health is provided in thecampus laboratory setting. Prerequisite(s): NSG 110, NSG 111Corequisite(s): BIO 172, PSY 161NSG 130—PRACTICAL NURSING ROLE 2-8-4IN EXTENDED CARE SETTINGSFacilitates the student’s transition to practical nursing practice.Content related to the practical nursing role as manager of care inextended care settings under the supervision of the registered nurseis explored. Issues related to beginning and maintaining a career ofa practical nurse are also examined. Clinical laboratory experiencesin the area of the extended care settings provide the opportunity forthe student to apply knowledge, skills and behaviors developed inprevious nursing courses. This course also provides the studentwith the opportunity to develop behaviors to manage care of individualsin the extended care setting under the supervision of theregistered nurse.
