EARLY LEARNING CENTRE CORNER
Early Learners lead the way!
Life in the ELC has continued to gain pace over the last few weeks. With the children now settled into their new environment it
has been amazing to watch them grow in confidence as they become more familiar in their new surroundings.
The Early Learner A class have had their first Library sessions where they have read “The Great Big Enormous Turnip” by Alexei
Tolstoy. The children have planted beetroot seeds and are watching them grow. Hopefully they will grow up sweet and strong
like the turnip in the story. Perhaps the children will need to help each other to pull up The Great Big Enormous Beetroot?
Our investigations in the Early Learners A class have led to many experiences throughout the ELC, with gardening featuring in
many conversations with the children. A visit from The Very Hungry Caterpillar from Mrs Oates’s vegetable garden resulted in
some children retelling another much loved story.
Literacy development flows through all aspects of the ELC curriculum, reading a much loved story with the children has led to
science, drama, math, and language experiences. Learning is occurring in many ways with Tintern Schools youngest students.

Welcome to Maria!
Mrs Bigg-Wither has just joined the ELC
as an additional assistant in the Pre-Prep
A classroom. She has had training as an
additional assistant and has experience
working in early childhood settings.
Maria will also be doing some work in the
Prep classroom.
We are delighted that Maria has joined
us!
A Visit to the Farm!
Children in the ELC are beginning to have their first farm visit for the year. For
children in the Early Learners, this will be their first ever farm visit at Tintern
Schools and they will take the minivan to the farm.
For the Pre-Prep children some are going to the farm for the first time and all are
walking there for the first time. It’s a long walk for these little legs and Pre-Prep A
who were the first to go recently did a great job all the way there and all the way
back!
While at the farm we met with Farmer Wall who took us to see the sheep, feed
the cows and take a run in one of the paddocks. We had several wonderful parent
helpers who supported the children in having a safe and happy farm experience
and asking interesting questions of Farmer Wall. The children all remembered
their Pre-Prep
behaviour and
manners and
made choices that
ensured we all
had a great time.

Seeking ELC Class Representatives!
Do you like having coffee and getting to know others? We are still looking for parent
representatives in the ELC. Parent Reps are parents who volunteer to organise social activities
for your class. This is an easy but important role that is truly valued and appreciated by the
other parents and the school.
