About ISRMTTThe Indian Society for Rock Mechanics and TunnellingTechnology (ISRMTT) aims at promoting cooperationamongst engineers and scientists for the advancementand dissemination of knowledge in the field of RockMechanics and Tunnelling Technology. This includesthe allied fields of Geotechnical Engineering,Engineering Geology, Civil and Mining Engineering andtheir practical applications as field or laboratory testingor instrumentation and computer aided analysis anddesign. It achieves its objectives by conductingworkshops, seminars, training courses and lectures byeminent persons in this field. It also publishes abiannual journal and a biannual news bulletin.ISRMTT has over 1850 life members, 50 institutionalmembers, 20 executive committee members, 2 honoraryfellows, 7 local chapters and 30 editorial boardmembers from India and abroad.The first and inaugural Indian Rock Conference –INDOROCK 2000 was conducted by ISRMTT in theyear 2000. The Second Indian Rock Conference –INDOROCK 2009 was organised by ISRMTT inassociation with CSMRS, New Delhi during 12-13November 2009 at CSMRS New Delhi. This third IndianRock Conference: INDOROCK 2011 is being organisedby the ISRMMT Roorkee Chapter at IIT Roorkee.Objectives of INDOROCK- 2011The Himalayas provides an actual field laboratory forrock mechanics studies. Infrastructural and hydro powerdevelopment activities are being conducted in theHimalayas at very fast pace. Challenges are beingfaced in planning, designing and construction of theseprojects. In the light of the above, the followingobjectives have been set for the conference:• Exposure of rock engineering subject to thedesigners and field engineers, researchers andmanufacturers of the equipment in respect of latestdevelopments. To interact and share the experienceswith the eminent experts.• To showcase new testing techniques andequipments.• To address and motivate the interest on use of rockengineering for better understanding of the variousaspects of tunnels, underground construction, rockslopes, laboratory and field testing, rock foundationand instrumentations works to be carried out in theHimalayan range.Themes for INDOROCK 2011Original papers are invited on all areas of RockEngineering and Tunnelling Technology. Conferencethemes include:• Strength and deformational behaviour of rocks androck masses,• Rock slope stability, landslides and risk assessmentstudies,• In-situ, laboratory and geological investigations,• Applications of investigation data for planning anddesigning,• Underground design, construction techniques andmanagement,• Recent developments in tunnelling techniques,• Instrumentation and monitoring,• Numerical modelling,• Case studies and other relevant topics related withrocks and rock masses.Call for PapersAuthors are requested to submit a 200 words abstract,which will constitute the basis for preliminaryacceptance. Abstracts must be submitted in PDF orword format to our e-mail addressisrmtt.roorkee@gmail.com. All correspondence shallbe made through email.As many papers as possible will be given time for oralpresentation at the conference. In the event of largeresponse, poster session may also be planned.Notification of acceptance of abstract and instructions toauthors will be issued for full length paper preparation.PublicationFull papers will be included in the conferenceproceedings. The proceeding of the INDOROCK 2011will be distributed to all registered delegates in theconference.
