The first professor of TheThomson College of Civil Engineering was aProfessor of Geology (Prof. H.B. Medlicott)appointed way back in the year 1855. TheDepartment (formerly known as Departmentof Geology and Geophysics) was established inthe year 1960. The main strength of thedepartment is the strong emphasis on teachingand pioneering research contributions inGeology and Geophysics, which have led torecognition through several awards andhonors conferred on many faculty members, aswell as generous funding from variousagencies. The department has completed 50glorious years in 2010. This conference is beingorganised to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of theDepartment of Earth Sciences at IIT Roorkee.OBJECTIVE AND SCOPEThe objective of this conference is tobring together experts and researchers acrossdifferent disciplines of Earth Sciences todelibrate on emerging research trends.Further, it is hoped that the proceedings willhelp in identifying major gaps and frontlineareas of research in earth sciences in India.During the conference we will felicitateour former teachers who contributedimmensely towards shaping the departmentand raising to its present level.CALL FOR PAPERSPapers are invited from scientists,academicians and students on topics related tothe theme of the conference. The thrust will beon innovative ideas and advancement in thefield of earth sciences. All correspondences h o u l d b e m a d e t o O r g a n i z i n gSecretary/Convenor.REGISTRATIONAll participants need to register toattend the conference. The registration fee willbe Rs. 3000/- for the delegates, Rs. 2000/- foraccompanying person, Rs. 1500/- for ResearchScholars/ Students and Rs. 5000/- fordelegates from industries. The payment ofregistration fee should be made by demanddraft or intercity cheque in favor of“ESCGOLDENJUBILEE-2013, IIT Roorkee”payable at Roorkee.
