In its debutseason, Sinfonia released an acclaimed recording ofFrench piano concerti with music director Ian Hobsonconducting from the keyboard; it was the subjectof a 90-minute public television special. Since thattime, Sinfonia has performed more than 700 musicalworks featuring more than 150 local and guestartists. Through Maestro Hobson’s commitmentto excellence in all of the orchestra’s endeavors—special projects, recordings, tours, and concerts forthe hometown crowd at Krannert Center for thePerforming Arts—Sinfonia has achieved national andinternational recognition.Sinfonia has appeared in 19 recordings and has fouradditional projects in the works. This season’s plansinclude a live recording of Sinfonia da Camera’sOctober 6, 2012, concert of music by PulitzerPrize-winning composer George Walker. In 2011,Albany Records released a Sinfonia da Camerarecording of works by another American composer,William Schuman, during his centenary year. Tenrecordings by Sinfonia da Camera for the Zephyrlabel have been released to rave reviews both athome and abroad. The fourth and final volume ofthe Ignaz Moscheles cycle will be released in 2012.The previous volumes were reviewed by AmericanRecord Guide: “Hobson, whose elegant phrasing,remarkable ear for color, and miraculous ability toevenly sustain the most difficult runs—each likea string of pearls—are simply a joy to hear” and“[The concerti] seem tailor-made for Hobson’s greatpanache and free-wheeling style.” At its founding,it would have been difficult to predict the scope ofactivities and projects that Sinfonia would realizeover the years.
