In its debutseason, Sinfonia released an acclaimed recording ofFrench piano concerti with music director Ian Hobsonconducting from <strong>the</strong> keyboard; it was <strong>the</strong> subjectof a 90-minute public television special. Since thattime, Sinfonia has per<strong>for</strong>med more than 700 musicalworks featuring more than 150 local and guestartists. Through Maestro Hobson’s commitmentto excellence in all of <strong>the</strong> orchestra’s endeavors—special projects, recordings, tours, and concerts <strong>for</strong><strong>the</strong> hometown crowd at <strong>Krannert</strong> <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong>—Sinfonia has achieved national andinternational recognition.Sinfonia has appeared in 19 recordings and has fouradditional projects in <strong>the</strong> works. This season’s plansinclude a live recording of Sinfonia da Camera’sOctober 6, 2012, concert of music by PulitzerPrize-winning composer George Walker. In 2011,Albany Records released a Sinfonia da Camerarecording of works by ano<strong>the</strong>r American composer,William Schuman, during his centenary year. Tenrecordings by Sinfonia da Camera <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Zephyrlabel have been released to rave reviews both athome and abroad. The fourth and final volume of<strong>the</strong> Ignaz Moscheles cycle will be released in 2012.The previous volumes were reviewed by AmericanRecord Guide: “Hobson, whose elegant phrasing,remarkable ear <strong>for</strong> color, and miraculous ability toevenly sustain <strong>the</strong> most difficult runs—each likea string of pearls—are simply a joy to hear” and“[The concerti] seem tailor-made <strong>for</strong> Hobson’s greatpanache and free-wheeling style.” At its founding,it would have been difficult to predict <strong>the</strong> scope ofactivities and projects that Sinfonia would realizeover <strong>the</strong> years.
