31COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONThe Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, by voice vote, approvedthe bill, as amended, and recommends its enactment by theHouse.DEPARTMENTAL <strong>REPORT</strong>The Committee has not received a report from the Department ofthe Interior on the legislation. The timber on unallotted lands of any Indian reservationmay be sold in accordance with the principles of sustainedyield, or in order to convert the land to a more desirable use, underregulations to be prescribed by the Secretary of the Interior, andthe proceeds from such sales, after deductions for administrativeexpenses pursuant to the Act of February 14, 1920, as amended (25U.S.C. 4131, shall be used for the benefit of Indians who are membersof the tribe or tribes concerned in such manner as he maydirect.]SEC. 7. Under regulations prescribed by the Secretary of the Interior,the timber on unallotted trust land in Indian reservations or onother land held in trust for tribes may be sold in accordance withthe principles or sustained-yield management or to convert the landto a more desirable use.
