Students from throughout Wisconsinwere selected to participate in thisband based on solo & ensembleexperience, honors activities, anddirector’s recommendation. Thestudents practiced allday with UW-ECDirector <strong>of</strong> Band Dr.Peter Habermanand performedan eveningconcert inconjunctionwith theU W - E a uClaire WindSymphony,also underthe direction <strong>of</strong> Haberman. Picturedare Jenna Magsam (trumpet), MeganSteinberger (horn), Olivia Weidling (horn),and Mackenzie Wink (clarinet) who wereselected for membership in this year’s honorsband. This yearthe theme was “Aspire Higher” andEthan Brandt, McKenzee Hennessy, and LaurenaSchug with the 1st place “Chapter Pride Sheet”.the primary focus was on working as ateam and creating a “Chapter Fact/PrideSheet.”<strong>Glenwood</strong> City is in its second year as aDECA chapter. DECA is a student ledorganization for students interested inbusiness, marketing, and entrepreneurship.The challenge at the conferencewas to create a “Chapter Pride Sheet”that highlighted the achievements <strong>of</strong> theDECA chapter. In just one year, <strong>Glenwood</strong>City DECA has grown to 20% <strong>of</strong>the high school population; <strong>of</strong> the memberswho competed in <strong>District</strong>s, nearly70% received medals; 50% <strong>of</strong> memberscompeting at State received medals;Continued on p. 5


FFA NATIONAL CONVENTIONOur trip to National Convention began on October19th until the 22nd. We woke up early tobe at Baldwin Kwik Trip by 6:00 A.M. We thenpicked up more FFA members in Mauston, WI.We stopped for lunch down by Milwaukee.When we got to Racine, WI, we toured the CaseIH Tractor Plant. The people were nice and welearned a lot <strong>of</strong> interesting things about how tractorsare built. We ate supper and then settled intobed and went to sleep. Early morning we arrivedin Indiannapolis and the convention and went tothe opening session to learn about the national <strong>of</strong>ficers,hear the band and choir preform, and listento an keynote speaker Dave Roever. Everythingwe learned and were told really inspired us as achapter. After the session we all went to the careershow and FFA shop. There were a lot <strong>of</strong> things atthe career show about ag business and colleges.We then had supper and got on the bus and wentto the Blake Shelton concert. The concert wasamazing--something we wish we could experienceagain. The night was done and we all wentto bed.We woke up and went to session 5 and listenedto Landan Schafferet, retiring people and newadvisors as well, and the national <strong>of</strong>ficer candidates.We also went to two workshops. One wascalled “A Change Worth Making” and the otherwas called “Are You Living With Purpose?”. As achapter, we learned a lot <strong>of</strong> good things from theseworkshops.we’ve had two 3rd place National winners, and a Wisconsin 1stplace National Virtual Business-Personal Finance team. In additionto the impressive awards earned, the students participatein leadership activities, business-related field trips, communityservice events, and fundraising campaigns. Ms. Kern says thatIsabel is a sweet girl with a smilethat is always bubbling with laughter.Elijah Nerby is in Ms. Webb's class.His parents are Randy and MollyNerby. Elijah likes to play with hisdad's laser, being outside and playingwith Lego's. Ms. Webb saysthat Eli is a kind and friendly kindergartner.He loves to write anddraw and always cleans up his .Elek Anderson is in Mrs. Olson'sclass. His parents are Craig and JulieAnderson. Elek likes Reading,Math and playing with cars. Mrs.Olson says that he is an excellentstudent! He gets his work done andis very helpful to his peers.Samantha Peterson is in Mrs. Branigan'sclass. Her parents are Kenand Karen Peterson. At schoolSam's favorite subject is Sciencebecause she likes learning aboutanimals. She also enjoys running.Mrs. Branigan says that Sam isa great helper to all <strong>of</strong> her classmates.Aiden Howard is in Mrs. Utphall'sclass. His parents are Aaron andLaura Howard. Aiden enjoys drawing,painting. playing outside andriding bike. He hopes to be an artistsomeday. Mrs. Utphall says thatAiden works hard and takes pridein all he does and he is an awesomestudent.Jordan Klatt is in Mrs. Tiberg'sclass. His parents are Dan andBridgette Klatt. Jordan likes toplay football, basketball, kickballand baseball. His favorite subjectis Social Studies. He would like tobe a builder some day. Mrs. Tibergsays that Jordan is a very politeyoung man. He adds a lot to classroomdiscussions and she enjoyshaving him in her class.Nicole Blomberg is in Mrs. Thorson'sclass. Her parents are Andrewand Kathy Blomberg. Nicole likesgymnastics, Phy. Ed, swinging andplaying with her dog. Mrs. Thorsonsays that she is a kind studentwho enjoys helping her friends.Camden Schultz is in Mrs. Thorson'sclass. His parents are Ericand Roberta Schultz. Camden enjoysplaying Wii and Lego's. Hisfavorite subject is Phy. Ed. Mrs.Thorson says that Camden is a verypolite student. He always workshard and helps others.Jatelyn Johnson is in Mrs. Logghe'sclass. Her parents are Timand Tammy Johnson. At homeJatelyn's favorite things to do areread, play with her sister and jumpon the trampoline. In school sheenjoys Technology, Math and Science.Mrs. Logghe says that sheis a good student, works hard, hasgreat ideas and is kind to others.Jatelyn is a very nice girl.Mikayla Dunbar is in Mrs. Logghe'sclass. She is the daughter <strong>of</strong>Heather Dunbar. Mikayla enjoysReading, Science, Social Studiesand Math. She enjoys being outsideand playing games. Mrs. Logghesays that Mikayla is a friendlygirl and is great to have in class.Tanner Davis is in Mr. Kittilson'sclass. His parents are Steve andBeth Davis. Tanner likes football,the Packers, Math and friends. Mr.Kittilson says that he is very kind,fun and hardworking student whois fun to have in class.
