Happy Holidays, ADA! I hope you had a wonderful
Christmas and are planning a fun New Year’s!
This issue is packed with a lot of news—I hope you enjoy
it. First we had a great event on November 19th at Rio
Cibolo Ranch. ADA member, Sandy Venneman, PhD led
a discussion on ―Why Does My Horse Do That‖ followed
by demo rides. Our riders and horses did well despite the
long horns and lamas who found our activities very interesting!
Thanks to Carolyn Vandenberg, our Education
Next was the USDF Annual Convention. Carolyn Vandenberg, ADA VP and Education Chair attended as our GMO delegate.
Carolyn was also elected to the USDF Executive Board as At-Large Director —a newly created position. Carolyn
won her election despite the stiff competition!!! We are really lucky to have a member of the USDF Executive Board on
our board!
Speaking of board members, ADA held it’s annual election. I was elected to continue as President for another two years,
Jennifer Delmer (our current Member at Large) was elected to take Carolyn’s place as VP (Carolyn is continuing in her
role as Education Chair) and Kathy Lubianski was elected to take Bill Eash’s place as Treasurer (Bill is still working in
California). In addition, Kathleen Reynolds was appointed to the Member-at-Large position, Vicki Krebsbach to Membership,
and Pam Gouger to Schooling Shows. Thanks and welcome to our new board members!
On December 3rd, Judy and Rick Urban hosted ADA at the Bikram Yoga studio. Members were treated to a private Bikram
yoga session followed by a talk by Rick Urban. Rick discussed the importance of staying flexible especially after age
35 and how yoga (especially Bikram yoga) is perfect for this.
On December 11th ADA held it’s first Schooling Show Championship and Holiday Open Show at the San Antonio Rose
Palace. Despite the cold temps and rain, we had a full show! Results are posted on www.alamodressage.org. Special
thanks to Pam Gouger for volunteering as Show Secretary and thanks to all our other volunteers (see picture on page 3!)
Championship winners left with ribbons, medals, saddle pads and CASH! Start collecting your scores for next year. We
will be updating and posting 2012 qualifying rules within the next month.
The Juniors were busy hosting a holiday party on December 17th. Originally scheduled to work at Triple H that morning,
that volunteer event was canceled at the request of Triple H. That evening the juniors held a party at In the Irons complete
with a gift exchange!
Mark your calendars for our 30th Anniversary Party and Awards Banquet at Biga on the Banks on January 28th! Evite to
come! Have a great New Year’s!!! - Arlene Gaitan, President
My experience showing in Houston was
amazing. I had a blast in The Great American and
in USDF Dressage Seat Equitation class. I placed
seventh in the Great American show with a score
of 64.2%. I loved the awards ceremony as well. In
Dressage Seat Equitation, I placed second which
means that I get to go to Nationals!
Overall I had a great time and I will definitely
try to make it back next year.
