Seventy-four individual faculty, adjuncts, and lecturers make up the teaching staff <strong>of</strong><br />
the department and are grouped in a variety <strong>of</strong> specialty areas:<br />

During the academic year, four faculty were promoted effective September 1, 2007:<br />
Lynn Katz, Environmental and Water Resources <strong>Engineering</strong>, was promoted to Pr<strong>of</strong>essor,<br />
Hillary Hart, Technical Communications, was promoted to Distinguished Senior Lecturer,<br />
Ghislaine Kozuh, Technical Communications, was promoted to Senior Lecturer, and S.<br />
Travis Waller, Transportation <strong>Engineering</strong>, was promoted to Associate Pr<strong>of</strong>essor.<br />

Wassim Ghannoum and Jinying Zhu joined the department as Assistant Pr<strong>of</strong>essors in<br />
Structural <strong>Engineering</strong> in September 2007. Stephen G. Wright, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor in Geotechnical<br />
<strong>Engineering</strong>, retired at the end <strong>of</strong> August 2008. Gerald E. Speitel Jr. stepped down as<br />
department chair on August 31, 2008 to assume the role <strong>of</strong> Associate Dean for Academic<br />
Affairs in the Cockrell School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Engineering</strong>.<br />
