The structure consists of 3 wood latticeworksides with an entrance at the roadside frontage. There is an opening at the back of the structure measuringapproximately 3 square metres allowing for a lake view. The roof is made of wood with the original cupola and smallspiral still intact. The Mineral Spring was located to thewest of the gazebo along the shoreline, and people would collect mineral spring water from a large wooden barrel sunkinto the sand. People would drink the water from the spring to rid themselves of parasites and it was deemed beneficialfor the people lodging in the nearby Sanatorium. In the mid to late 1800s, “Springwood” was the name of the parsonageof Rev. William Ritchie, the 2nd reverend of St. George’s Anglican Church, and in the 1900’s the name “Springwood” wasgiven to a resort area offering tourist cabins. The gazebo and its associated mineral spring were important landmarks forpeople vacationing in Jackson’s Point.Contextual ValueThe Courting House is the last of this type of structure to remain in its original location. It is a landmark and reminder ofGeorgina’s early and vibrant status as a vacation destination.
