Sutton Secondary Plan Review StudyThe purpose of the Review Study is to update and revise the SuttonSecondary Plan. In general, this will include:• Determining the vision, goals and objectives of the community over the next 20years;• Updating the environmental mapping and policies, using the latest availableinformation from the Town, Province, Region and the Conservation Authority;• Determining the land base required to accommodate the appropriate amountof residential, commercial, institutional and industrial development over the next20 years, and then if required adjusting the extent and location of the UrbanService Boundary to accommodate future growth;• Reviewing and revising, where appropriate, the land use designations andpolicies to direct and manage new growth;• Creating special policies for existing and future commercial areas, including thecore areas of Sutton and Jackson’s Point and the Dalton Road and BaselineRoad Corridors; and,• Developing Urban Design and Architectural Control Guidelines to guide futuredevelopment within the Secondary Plan Area.Town of GeorginaSUTTON SECONDARY PLAN REVIEW STUDY9

Provincial and Regional PolicyProvincial Policy Statement (2005)• Provides broad overall direction on matters related to land use planning anddevelopment in Ontario while supporting improved land use planning andmanagement in order to accommodate appropriate development to meet futureneeds. This is through efficient land use patterns which promote a mix of housing,employment, parks and open spaces, and transportation, especially pedestrianand alternative modes of travel.Places to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (2006)• Municipalities are required to bring their Official Plans into conformity with theGrowth Plan by June 16, 2009.Greenbelt Plan (2005)• Sutton Secondary Plan (SSP) Area is described as a ‘Town and Village’ within theProtected Countryside designation of the Plan.• Policies of the Plan do not apply within the SSP boundary, except for the externalconnections policies related to development near the Black River.York Region Official Plan (1994)• Growth Management Strategy 2007 - population and employment targets for theTown of GeorginaTown of GeorginaSUTTON SECONDARY PLAN REVIEW STUDY10
