Researchers willbe exploring strategies for becomingenergy independent on the first commercialscale, organic dairy researchfarm in the country. The project focuseson whether or not having closed nutrientcycles <strong>and</strong> energy independencewill help small, family run dairy farmsin the northeast survive financial vulnerabilities.The grant comes as risingenergy <strong>and</strong> feed costs threaten thestability of small dairy farms in theNortheast.Study Says <strong>Organic</strong>Blueberries Are MoreNutritiousnew study published in the JournalA of Agriculture <strong>and</strong> Food Chemistrysuggests that organically cultivatedblueberries are more nutritious thanconventionally grown blueberries. Thestudy, which was jointly conductedby researchers at the U.S. Departmentof Agriculture <strong>and</strong> Rutgers Universityin New Jersey, analyzed the sugar,antioxidant <strong>and</strong> acid content of blueberriesfrom five organic farms <strong>and</strong> fiveconventional farms. The study revealedthat organically grown blueberriescontained significantly higher amountsof glucose <strong>and</strong> fructose.
