Illusion...Continued from page 13life where maybe I was too wrapped up in making moviesand that my son missed something. Doing Illusion remindedme, “Oh my God, before I die I want to do something formy kids.”Michael you maxed out all your credit cards to makeIllusion. Was it worth it?MG: Yeah, absolutely. A definite theme of this film is tofollow your dreams and I figured that if I’m going to makepictures like this—I’d better live this way.KD: I think Michael shouldbe proud of Illusion. To meit was a wonderful thing towork with so many young, talented people. It was rejuvenatingto me.MG: Kirk was very inspiringto me. During our firstmonth of rehearsals I realizedthat Kirk is just like meor any other actor, he lovesacting. In Illusion we got achance to really explore thedeeper side of life.Mr. Douglas, you were BarMitzvahed a second time atage seventy-three. Whatdrew you back to your religiousand spiritual roots?KD: I don’t know if there isan “after life” but I thoughtit would make my motherhappy. I’m not a very religiousguy. I think there’stoo much religion in theworld. It doesn’t matterwhat religion you follow, ifit makes you considerate ofother people and you do unto others as you would havethem do unto you, then that’s the right religion.Michael, tell me about your first meeting with Mr.Douglas.MG: I remember the first time I went to his house. He cameup and looked at my chin and said, “It’ll do.” Everythinghappened pretty quickly after that. He read the script andagreed to star in it.KD: I think it’s true. I recently celebrated my 90th birthday. When I was a kid I almost drown. I survived a helicoptercrash, I have had operations on both knees, I’ve got a pacemakerand had a stroke and I’m still around. Sometimes Iwonder why and I think it’s because I want to help youngerpeople because, lets face it; the world is in a mess. My generationhas not done a very good job and we are leaving alot of problems for the younger generation to solve.Michael, what are you working on now?MG: I’m writing a new picture…it’s a love story thathas a lot of metaphysicalaspects to it.Mr. Douglas, what are younow working on?KD: Well, I just finished myninth book. It’s called Let’sFace It: 90 Years of Living,Loving, and Learning. Idedicated it to my grandchildren. In this book, Ishare the mistakes that Ihave made, the things that Ilike and don’t like.
