Holy Trinity Catholic SchoolMarch 2013Home of the Hurricanes487 Grange Rd., Guelph, ON • N1E 7C4519-821-0156 Wisdom • Family • FaithWelcome to March! This month represents a timeof renewal, as the arrival of spring is right aroundthe corner. As we look forward to March break andcelebrating St. Patrick’s Day, we should also keepin mind the special liturgical season of Lent. Thepurpose of Lent is to set aside time for Jesus – Hissuffering and His sacrifice, His life, death, burialand resurrection. As nature renews itself, we tooare asked to renew our hearts and repair ourrelationships with God and with each other. DuringLent we have an opportunity to improve ourselvesthrough acts of self-discipline and self-control orthrough acts of charity and kindness.During Lent we model how we can “change ourhearts” to develop positive character attributes andchange our bad habits into good habits andpractices. As we journey through the season ofLent, let us pray for peace and harmony in ourworld. Let us pray that our students, families andstaff will be able to journey through Lent in goodhealth, filled with the awe of our faith. On behalf of the entire Holy Trinity staff, I would liketo wish all our families a holy and blessed Lentenseason.Have a wonderful March break!Blessings,Todd D. March 2013Holy Trinity Catholic SchoolMarch is Nutrition Month-Eat like a champion!Soccer, dance, hockey, swimming… Whatever activities your child enjoys, feeling good is what it’s all about. You need three nutrients in your diet for long-lasting energy; carbohydrates, protein and some fat. Choose avariety of food from each of the four food groups from Canada’s Food Guide, meals should contain at least 3food groups and snacks should contain at least 2. The more colour on your plate, the more vitamins andminerals you’ll take in.Pack a Snack!-A small, mostly carbohydrate snack before a game or activity can give your child the energythey need, such as fresh fruit mixed with yogurt and a couple handfuls of trail mix.Stay Hydrated!-Not drinking enough water can slow your child down.Water is the best drink to have before and after playing sports andgames. Milk and smoothies can boost hydration too. Avoid otherbeverages such as energy or sports drinks, juices and cocktails.Stay Active.
