colourGlazing mixingIn painting glazing means the application of transparent layers of paint. A transparentblue applied over yellow mixes optically to green. Transparent red over yellow mixesoptically to orange. Transparent blue over red mixes optically to violet. If we apply threecolours on top of each other they cancel each other out and mix optically to producean unsaturated grey colour (ill. 33). The best results are achieved with glazing mixingwhen increasingly dark colours are applied over each other.[ 33]This technique cannot be used with poster colour, since poster paint is opaque.
