GeneralIf a student has concerns regarding <strong>College</strong> policies and procedures, or the application of thosepolicies and procedures, or their experience at the <strong>College</strong> that are not specifically covered byanother complaint/appeals process, that student should direct those concerns to the Dean of<strong>Student</strong> Development. If the student’s concerns are not resolved informally, the student mayfile a written formal grievance with the Dean of <strong>Student</strong> Development. The Dean of <strong>Student</strong>Development will consult the appropriate officials on campus and will make the student awareof the <strong>College</strong>’s response to their concerns.Discrimination StatementsStatement on Discrimination and Harassment<strong>Wilson</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> does not discriminate or permit discrimination by any member ofits community against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex,age, disability, familial status, veteran status, genetic information, or citizenship in matters ofadmission, employment, or services or in the educational programs or activities it operates.Harassment, whether verbal, physical, or visual, that is based on any of these characteristicsis a form of discrimination. This includes harassing conduct affecting tangible job benefits,interfering unreasonably with an individual’s academic work or work performance, or creatingwhat a reasonable person would perceive is an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.Prohibited sex discrimination includes sexual harassment and sexual violence.Title IX StatementTitle IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, found at http://www.dol.gov/oasam/regs/Statutes/titleix.htm, protects individuals from discrimination based on sex in any educationalprogram or activity operated by the <strong>College</strong>. Sexual harassment, which includes sexual violence,is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by Title IX. The <strong>College</strong> has designated Title IXCoordinators, listed under “About WCC” on the <strong>College</strong> website, to coordinate the <strong>College</strong>’scompliance with and respond to inquiries concerning Title IX. A person may file a complaintregarding an alleged violation of Title IX by contacting the following persons:• Don L. Boyette (Interim)Dean of <strong>Student</strong> DevelopmentPO Box 4305<strong>Wilson</strong>, NC 27893Office – F-100-hPhone (252) 246-1275dboyette@wilsoncc.eduEducation Records (FERPA)<strong>Wilson</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> upholds the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA),giving students the right to inspect, review, and amend their educational records. <strong>Wilson</strong> <strong>Community</strong><strong>College</strong> students will be permitted to inspect their own educational records. In addition,the <strong>College</strong> will not release or disclose information, or allow inspection of records, withoutprior written permission from the student, unless, by law, prior consent is not required undercertain circumstances. <strong>Student</strong>s also have a right to file a complaint with the U.S. Departmentof Education. The <strong>College</strong> will provide students in attendance with an annual notification ofthe rights available under FERPA and will follow procedures to comply with this law. TheDean of <strong>Student</strong> Development is designated as the <strong>College</strong> FERPA Compliance Administrator.Right to Review and InspectA student has a right to review and inspect their permanent student records. A student desiringto review records may do so by submitting a request in writing to the Director of Admissions/Registrar, who will schedule such inspections within 45 days of the request. A student desiringcopies of educational records may receive such after payment of a fee of 50 cents per sheet.This is exclusive of normal transcript service.28
