For the firsttime in this country, this small community of 250families gathered for worship in Christ ChurchTaney. They welcomed their local Primate fromLondon, shared together the great symbols offaith, bread and wine, baptized nine of theirchildren, prepared five couples for marriageblessing and celebrated the marriage of twoyoung people in love. Following their servicethey sat down to dinner in the Parish Centre. What a day of worship, of festivity, of happinessand fun together. For the past two years eachSunday, they have been meeting here in Taneyfor children’s Sunday school, informal worship, and then language classes for the young. Throughtheir Irish Consul, they contribute to our Parishand enjoy the facilities as they get together, exchange news from home and encourage eachother in their new life here in Ireland. Theirfamilies have stories to share of genocide by theTurks during the First World War when one anda half million Armenians were slaughtered andmillions had to flee their homes. All of them are members of the ApostolicOrthodox Armenian Church which is the world’soldest National Church and one of the mostancient Christian communities. Their countryborders Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north,Aberbaijan to the east and Iran to the south.
