Ruth received her undergraduate degree from Duke Universityand a masters in art history from Rutgers University.Deborah DeMott joined the faculty of Duke Law School in 1975 after practicing law with a large law firmin New York City. She taught at other universities in the United States, Canada, and Hungary, and was aFulbright Senior Scholar in Australia in 1986. From 1998‐2000, Deborah held a secondary appointmentin the Law Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science. Over her career, shehas taught courses in corporate law and other aspects of business law and, more recently, she teachestort law to first‐year law students. Her books and articles focus on fiduciary obligations, corporatetransactions, the law of agency (i.e. relationships in which one person represents another), among othertopics. She graduated from Swarthmore College and New York University School of Law and spent herearly years in DuBois, PA, where her mother was a practicing artist and a public‐school art teacher. Shedeveloped the first course in Art Law at Duke Law School five years ago. In the course, studentsexamine legal concepts that underpin transactions and legal interests in art objects, including questionsof ownership and authenticity. The course also examines specific legal issues associated with artmuseums as distinctive cultural institutions. She has taught versions of this course as well to graduatestudents in law at the University of Sydney and Central European University in Budapest.Kathi Eason of Durham, NC relocated from Dallas, TX where she served on the Dallas SymphonyOrchestra board and was president of their young patrons group. A native Texan, Kathi also served onthe board of the Dallas Auxiliary Gladney Center and a luncheon committee for the Komen Foundation.In Durham, she has served on the steering committee for the <strong>Full</strong> Frame Documentary Film Festival. Herhusband, Stephen A. Eason, is Executive Vice President of Smith Breeden Associates, Inc.Pierce Freelon is a musician, professor, and artivist with a passion for creativity and community. He isfront man of the genre‐bending The Beast, hailed as a "natural, engaging blend of jazz and hip hop," byJazz Times Magazine. He has taught music, African American studies and political science at theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North Carolina Central University. Freelon is the cofounderof ARTVSM ‐ a company merging art and activism by any medium necessary.Christopher Gergen is founding Executive Director of Bull City Forward, a non‐profit focused oncatalyzing sustainable enterprise in Durham, NC—an effort that is quickly becoming a model for othercities including the launch of Queen City Forward in Charlotte. Bull City Forward complementsChristopher’s role as an adjunct faculty member at the Entrepreneurial Leadership Initiative at DukeUniversity within the Terry Sanford School of Public Policy's Hart Leadership Program as well as hisposition as “Innovator in Residence” at the Center for Creative Leadership. Christopher is also afounding partner of Life Entrepreneurs, LLC, a leadership development and consulting firm, and coauthorof the nationally acclaimed book Life Entrepreneurs: Ordinary People Creating ExtraordinaryLives (Warren Bennis Leadership Series; Jossey‐Bass). Christopher also co‐authors a bi‐weekly columnon social innovation for the Raleigh News & Observer and the Charlotte Observer titled “Doing Better atDoing Good.” Christopher received a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Duke University, a Master'sDegree in Public Policy from the George Washington University, and his MBA from GeorgetownUniversity. He lives with his wife and two children in Durham, NC.Michael Goodmon leads one of the country's most dynamic urban mixed‐use developments, theAmerican Tobacco Campus in Durham. As vice president of real estate for Capitol BroadcastingCompany, Inc., the campus' owner and master developer, Michael manages the day‐to‐day activities ofapproximately 1,000,000 square feet of class A office, restaurant and retail space. He scopes and
develops new projects and opportunities, and has assembled a multitude of complex Historic and NewMarket Tax Credit transactions. He earned a B.S. in Mathematical Economics from Hampden‐SydneyCollege and a Masters in Trust and Investment Management from Campbell University. Michael is anadvocate and leader of the Durham and Triangle communities and serves on several boards toencourage growth, entrepreneurship and community development. These boards include: City ofDurham Workforce Economic and Employment Development, East Durham Children’s Initiative, HealingPlace of Wake County, Downtown Durham, Inc., NC Rails to Trails, CAHEC, and the Museum of DurhamHistory.Bryan Huffman is the Executive Branch Director of the Durham YMCAs, a division of the YMCA of theTriangle, the 10th largest Y in the country. Bryan has been with the YMCA for 17 years, the last six inDurham. Under his leadership, the Durham YMCAs have become one of the premier non‐profits inDurham serving over 20,000 Durham citizens annually in youth development and healthy living. Bryanhas an undergraduate business degree and an MBA, both from North Carolina State University. He livesin Durham with his wife and two young children.Virginia “Ginger” Jernigan is a graduate of Converse College, and a dedicated wife, mother andvolunteer. Her volunteer work has included a longtime commitment to Christ Church, including servingas President of the Altar Guild, as a member of the Church Leadership Council, as a member of theMinisterial Search Committee, as a Diocesan Delegate, as a Lay Eucharist Minister and as a ChaliceBearer. Ginger was on the Junior League of Raleigh Board of Directors for many years, serving as aChairman of committees and as Treasurer, was one of three Ravenscroft Day School's first Auction Co‐Chairs, an Interact Auction Co‐Chair, a Co‐Chair of the Wake County Heart Ball, and a member of the NCTheatre Board. She has been a member of the Raleigh Fine Arts Society for 17 years and on the Board ofDirectors for the past 12 years. While serving on the RFAS Board, she was Chairman of the ArtistsExhibition (2001‐2002), Secretary (2002‐2003), Treasurer (2007‐2008), President (2008‐2009) and iscurrently Chairman of the New Members Committee for 2010‐2011. Ginger lives in Raleigh, NC with herhusband, John, who is a lawyer. They have two children, Lee‐Ashley, a graduate of Duke University, andFrank, a graduate of Davidson College.Stefanie Kahn attended Columbia University (MBA) and Washington University (BA). Stefanie served onthe Mary Semans Gala Host Committee 2009. She has served on the Board of the Carolina Ballet for thepast five years, and the Board of the Raleigh/Cary Jewish Federation. She has been a docent at the NorthCarolina Museum of Art. Stefanie worked in Credit Card Marketing at American Express for 10 yearsprior to moving to Raleigh 17 years ago. Stefanie is married to Douglas James Kahn. They have threechildren: Lauren, a senior at Duke and Michael, recent graduate of Duke, and Daniel, who attends CaryAcademy.David Lindquist has been an antiques dealer, appraiser, author and educator since 1974, when hefinished his Graduate School work in Political Science at Duke University and opened a business ratherthan accept a university teaching position. He converted his passionate hobby (and graduate schoolsideline) into a business in order to keep his family in the Triangle‐‐a region with which they had fallen inlove. David has his undergraduate degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri‐‐his home state.(Ironically Drury won this years NCAA Division II national championship!) He has served on a variety ofnational boards in the antiques field (including President of The National Association of Dealers inAntiques) as well as area civic and church boards. For the past fifteen years he has served as Chairmanof the Board of The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (www.thecot.org) guiding the effort to create forThe COT a permanent home at the Durham Carolina Theater where over the last fourteen years
