The city is located at the crossroad of the north-south highways, on which is moved35% of the merchandise that comes through Italy and 16% of the continental traffic, dependingon the constantly increasing traffic flows.12 km from the city centre lies one of the largest <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> in Europe, an intermodallogistic complex, rail and roadway infrastructure, equipped to handle the transit of goods bothat a national and international level. This 2,000,000 sqm area, 350,000 of which indoor, seesa daily movement of about 5,000 heavy trucks. As one of the main development strategiescalls for favouring the use of railway transit, the <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> will be enlarged andoptimised, developing its intermodal exchange platform so that it will be ready to capture<strong>Bologna</strong>Systemthe opportunities presented by the completion of the high-speed railway lines.The projects are designed to support local manufacturing industries by increasing therange and quality of logistic services offered. To this end agreements have been madewith the Italian Port Authorities and major Italian and European logistic platforms.The <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> and the environmentWith investments totalling 1,315,000 euro and contributions from the Ministry of theEnvironment, one of the 25 warehouses of the <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> has been equipped withthe largest photovoltaic installation in the Emilia-Romagna region. Thanks to over 1,000solar panels, with more than 200 KWp of power, the plant will produce about 236 MWha year, which translate into a saving of 50 tonnes of petroleum. This highlights <strong>Bologna</strong>'s<strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong>'s concern for the environment, earning ISO14001 certification.<strong>Bologna</strong> <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> is a highly technological and functional specialized structure thathas not neglected its architectural and urbanistic aspects. To assure its livability andharmony with its surroundings, more than 30% of the total area has been set aside forgreen spaces and the more visible zones have been furnished with works of particularartistic and symbolic value.European projects<strong>Bologna</strong> <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> is participating in a number of European projects dealing withimproving merchandise transport handling procedures and environmental protection.BRAVOALPFRAILAims to develop and demonstrate, with regards to merchandise transport, a strategic action applicable not only to railway transportationand intermodal transport services (iron-rubber) through the Brennero corridor, but along all Pan-European corridors.Has the following objectives:• Estimation of merchandise transit to 2015 and 2020 between northern Italy and southern Germany;• Verification of the existing railway model of offer in the area (in particular between Brennero and Tauri);• Identification and description of critical states and realization of a simulation model of the iron mobility which optimizesthe use of the today's existing infrastructure;• Simulation of the fluxes estimated (2008, 2010, 2015) in respect to the model of optimization of the offer and verificationof the impact of the proposed actions produced on the market;• Development of quality systems and information system of the services desired to offer.TRENDAims to the creation of an integrated and interactive European area dedicated to railway transportation.M-TRADE Has the objective of evaluating the applicability of Egnos technologies to intermodal transportation with particular reference to Corridor V.METIS_GNSS EU-MEDDevelopment of an ICT platform, which based on the EGNOS_Galileo positioning services, favours the interfacing of transportusers on a multi-modal Mediterranean chain.MEDIGATTE (MEDOCC)PROMIT (new EUTP)MOSESMENTOREAims to intensify the traffic connections between Europe and Mediterranean countries through an intermodal transportation system.This will be supported by a technological platform aimed to facilitate information exchange along the logistics chains involved.PROMIT's strategic aim is to contribute to a more rapid improvement and implementation of technologies to intermodaltransportation and related procedures; PROMIT wants to favour the promotion of intermodal logistics and modal exchange oftransportation creating information methods on innovation, on excellence models, on intermodal transportation opportunitiesfor potential users, politicians and researchers.MOSES aims to contribute to the constitution of European regulations by developing, testing and evaluating innovations relatedto organizational, technical and operation aspects within the “Autostrade del Mare” (coastal highways), along a corridor definedas “Eastern Mediterranean”.Starting from existing regulations, transportation users needs and business objectives, the project will define optimal solutionsthrough the use of GALILEO.The results of the pilot services, will allow the demonstration of social and commercial benefits, in order to arrive to thedefinition of the guide lines for the creation of European Regulations.<strong>Bologna</strong> <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong>Interporto <strong>Bologna</strong> S.p.A., which constituted, developed and manages the <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong>,was founded in 1971. Its share capital is 13,743,928 euro, of which 52% from PublicEntities. <strong>Bologna</strong> <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> was the first intermodal freight transfer point to becompletely wired for electronic capabilities in Europe. All future buildings cabled andhandled by 9 servers over 7 km of optic fibre. It is the first <strong>Freight</strong> <strong>Village</strong> in the worldto be present on the internet 24 hours a day thanks to a web cam at the main entrance.Colori compositi
