I wish to extend my humblest gratitude to those who have worked hard inrealising this research book.Since its inception in 1959, the Chemistry Department has always placed excellence inteaching and research as its intent. Excellent undergraduate teaching, which forms thebasis of our activities is enhanced by the vitality of research in the department. This vitalitycreates a high conductive learning atmosphere imperative for a meaningful educationprocess. Coupled with an impressive array of facilities important for research and teaching,University Malaya’s Chemistry Department manifests the ideal environment for learningand advancing chemistry.This section introduces the department, its members and their activities.
