The first major event for the school community is the Education WeekPerformance Evening in which all the primary schools and our high school will put onperformances from the many talented students in our Learning Community. The eventwill be held on Wednesday 3rd August and I look forward to enjoying it with our parentsand students.Parents and teachers working togetherRecently I read an article (SMH July 18th 2011) about a research project aimed at fosteringpositive relationships and effective communication between parents and teachers. Ibelieve that this directly aligns with our school’s goals of unity and respect and hope thatour practice demonstrates our commitment to this relationship. The article went on tostate that schools should not make assumptions that because parents may not be involvedin a hands-on way, we cannot assume that they are not interested. I understand thedemands on parents’ time and recognise that it is not easy to be actively involved in schoolevents, but do hope that parents can still contribute by reading newsletters, responding tosurveys or giving us a call to comment on a particular issue. Parents can also have apositive influence by showing that they value education and have respect for teachers asprofessionals, whilst remaining an advocate for their child. In return, teachers need to takeon board that complaints reflect concern for a child’s well-being and should be taken as anopportunity to help the student. If we can all recall that we are all coming from astandpoint of doing the best for a child, then working together we are more likely to makea positive difference to their lives.good luck to our regional athletics representativesWe would like to congratulate the following students on their selection to representSydney North at the Regional Athletics Carnival which will be held over two dayscommencing on Monday July 25 at Homebush.Aleena Spake, Erin McNamara, Amelia Chadwick, Bailee Zuvela, Mokena Moeke, JaimeeFarrant, Tyler McVea, Emily Trengrove, Emma Kearney, Natalie Mumford, Hiku Moeke,Jayden Kluvetasch, Jesse Tasi, Nic Georgas, Clare McNamara, Lachlan Dawson, TiannahWatson and Nick Trengrove.Good luck, we know that you will all represent Kariong Mountains High in a positive andenthusiastic manner.free coachingfor allKMHS athletesCoaching in speed and power for all team sports as well as specific technique training forathletic events across all disciplines is being provided for our students on a weekly basisafter school on Mondays and Wednesdays 3.45 – 5.00pm.
