WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOWWill my child be overwhelmed?Researchers have found that most participants scoreabove the chance level (the score they would receive ifthey just guessed on every question) on the tests takenthrough NUMATS. In addition, the percentage ofstudents scoring at the low end of these tests is about thesame for both academic talent search students and highschool students, showing that younger students are notoverwhelmed by the test. In other words, tests takenthrough NUMATS are not too difficult for most middleschool students who qualify for NUMATS.Will my child be nervous about the testingenvironment?At many test centers, the testing room may serveboth NUMATS participants and older students. While afew younger students may be bothered by sitting next tohigh schoolers, most do just fine. Test proctors ensure aquiet, respectful test environment where all students cando their best work.Will my school be notified of my test results?If you are in grades 3 through 8, your school will be sentyour results and your certificate of participation if youprovide your school NUMATS ID number or school’sname when you register.What happens to my scores?When you register for the EXPLORE, ACT or SATthrough NUMATS and take the test, the testing agencysends an official score report to your home. The testingagency also sends the scores to NUMATS (and, for ACTand SAT test-takers, to any other program or schoolwhose four-digit code you entered on the NUMATSregistration).NUMATS will send a copy of your scores to yourschool if you provide your school’s NUMATS ID numberor your school’s name on your registration.NUMATS retains students’ scores indefinitely, buteach testing agency handles students’ scores differently.Please read below.EXPLORE ScoresFor students who register for and take the EXPLOREtest through NUMATS, ACT (the testing agency thatadministers the EXPLORE test) sends a score report tothe student and the scores to NUMATS.
