PVMSystemair Fire Air GrillesFire resistance classEI 160, EI 190, EI 2120, E120and EW60www.systemair.com

Fire safety productsPVMAll fire air grilles are standardly designed and certified in compliancewith the EI performance regulations. PVM fire air grilles areintended to be embedded into fire partition walls. All PVM fire air grilles can be delivered with either a manual actuatoror a servo.Description and UsagePVM fire air grille serves as a fire cap to connect two fire sectionswithout having to use an extra connection duct. It is embeddedfirmly into the fire partition structure. In case a fire occurs, thegrille’s blades close the opening and prevent the fire from expandinginto the next fire sections. The PVM grilles are made of a fire-resistantmaterial (D1) in accordance with the STN 73 0852regulation, they have been tested in accordance with the STN EN1634-1:2001 regulation and classified in accordance with the STNEN 13501-2:2005 regulation as EI 190, EI 2120, E120 and EW60.The servo-operated versions have been classified as EI 160, EI 2120,E120 and EW60.Operating ConditionsThe PVM equipped with a manual actuator and a thermal fusewith a low-fusible solder may be situated in an area where theoperating temperatures fall within the range of -10 to 68°C.The blade equipped with a servo and a thermal fuse can be situatedin an area where the operating temperatures fall within therange of -10 to 65°C.+50°C. The temperature during storage, transportation and maintenancemust not exceed 65°C!Material Used and DisposalThe product contains steel, zinc, a calcium-silicate board, graphitefire-proof laminate, ceramic sealing, polyurethane foam and ethylene-propylenedry rubber. These are processed in compliance withthe local regulations. The product does not contain any dangerousmaterial.WarrantyThe manufacturer provides a 24-month warranty period starting onthe date of expedition.AppendixAny demands regarding deviations from the above mentionedtechnical specifications and conditions shall be discussed with themanufacturer. The manufacturer reserves the right to perform anymodifications of the product without prior notice, provided thatsuch changes have no effect on the quality and performance of theproduct. The most recent state of our products is available at www.imos-systemair.sk.IMPORTANT CAUTION:Adjust the air grille to the working position “OPEN” by activatingthe servo. After opening and detention of the grille intothe opened position using the crank, it will only be possible toclose the grille by means of crank! The active fire-proof sealing must not be exposed to direct contactwith water. The maximum air flow speed is 12 m/s with purgeair without mechanic or chemical contamination with uniformflow, without condensation, ice coating and ice. The maximumallowable pressure difference is 1200 Pa. The device is not actuateduntil the ambient temperature reaches 65°C. In case ofneed of adjustment for higher temperatures in the workplace itis necessary to consult such demands with the producer and indicatethem in the purchase order accordingly. In terms of theirconstruction, the PVM grilles are designed to be used with horizontalblade axises.Transportation, Storage and MaintenanceIt is necessary to transport the PVM grilles by such means oftransport that provide a cover. When handling during transportationand storage, the air grilles must be protected against damageand weather conditions. The PVM blades must be in the “CLOSE”position. It is recommended to store these products in a closed, dry, area where the temperature falls within the range of -10°C to2

Active fire-proof sealingThe frame (1) is made of a zinc-plated structural steel. There are bladeswith a horizontal rotation axis (2) in it. Dividing insulation bladesare made of calcium-silicate boards. The blades close themselvesin opposite directions, triggered by a closing mechanism (3) (shifterand spring), or (servo and shifter) (3+4b). The blades are kept in anopen position by a fusible thermal link (4a) until the ambient temperatureexceeds 72 ± 1,5 °C. In servo-operated versions, the bladesare kept in an open position by the servo itself and are closed by abuilt-in spring. The triggering temperature is 72 ± 1,5°C. The thermal fuse consistsof two copper particles which are connected to the low-fusible solder. The protective grating (5) prevents contact with the blades’ surface(which has a higher temperature when a fire occurs) and creates anair gap between the blades and the grating at the same time to enableair flow which cools down the blades’ surface.14b2653Fig. 2 Servo-operated PVM4b4

Fire safety productsPVMPVM EmbeddingThe embedding of a fire air grille is always specified by the concreteventilation project, which must be in compliance with valid regulations. The PVM is embedded into a fire partition structure in such a waythat keeps the blades’ axes horizontal at all times. The mounting openings are walled up according to Fig. 4. A plastermixture is used to seal the gap between the fire partition wall and thePVM casing. After being embedded, the grille should be tested tomake sure its blades close and open themselves properly. When testing versions ZV, DV1 and DV2 the protective gratingmust be removed on the side where the thermal fuse is situated. Afterthat, the thermal fuse must be pulled out and the PVM is left to beautomatically closed. The blades then have to be opened and thethermal fuse must be put back to its original position. When testing versions DV7 and DV9, the PVM needs to be pluggedin and tested if the servo can close and open it properly. The servoneeds to be connected to an electric circuit prior to its mountinginto the fire partition structure. Access to the servo’s terminal boardis shown in Fig. 6. After removing the protective grating, the servo’sprotective casing (1) must be removed as well. The terminal board islocated under the casing (except the dimension H = 320 mm) andneeds to be demounted for better manipulation by loosening theindicated screw-bolts (2).The terminal board at dimension H = 320 mm needs to be placedoutside of the grille.Fire partitionstructurePlastermixturePVM50 L+4550H+45h˃150h=150h˂150Fire partitionstructureFire partitionstructurePlastermixturePlastermixture50PVMPVMH+45H+455050 L+4550L+45Fig. 5 Embedding of the PVM into fire partition structures with various widths6
