At the direction of the Speaker, the Office of Professional Development develops and provides a yearround
curriculum of introductory, intermediate, and advanced training classes for House legislative,
district, intern, other personnel services (OPS) and volunteer staff. These classes utilize a variety of
venues and technologies including lectures, computer exercises, webinars, independent studies, and offsite
training opportunities, to assist staff in the performance of their work. The Office of Professional
Development works with supervisors and staff to identify revisions or additions to available training
opportunities.

Intern Program/Training
The Office of House Chaplain is a volunteer staffed office whose primary function is to respond to the needs of
Members, not initiate programs or activities. House Chaplain activities include hospital visits, personal
meetings for encouragement and prayer, weekly Legislative Fellowship Gathering lead by Members, assisting
in memorial services for House Members, and assisting the Sergeant at Arms office in administering and
hosting the Minister of the Day Program. The services provided by this office are available to all staff and
Members regardless of religious background.
