Purpose Statement:<strong>JOB</strong> <strong>DESCRIPTION</strong><strong>Laramie</strong> <strong>County</strong> School District #1The job of Painter Journeyman is done for the purpose/s of maintaining the physical school plant in a condition ofoperating excellence so the full educational use of it may be made at all times; preparing and painting a variety ofsurfaces; determining repairs that can be accomplished by building staff or need to be referred to a contractor; ensuringavailability of supplies required for job assignments; and ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timelymanner.This job reports to Physical Systems Foreman<strong>PAINTER</strong> <strong>JOURNEYMAN</strong>Essential Functions• Applies tape and texture to drywall for the purpose of finishing the drywall and preparing it for paint.PainterJoun• Assists other trades as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.• Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.• Designs/installs signs (e.g. painting signs, stencils school property, etc.) for the purpose of providing directional andcautionary information.• Hangs wallpaper in a skilled and complete manner for the purpose of covering the walls.• Maintains tools and/or painting equipment, sprayers and strippers for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipmentin safe operating condition.• Mixes paints and stains for the purpose of achieving the right color for the job.• Operates all painting tools and associated equipment (e.g. sanders, sprayers, rollers, etc.) for the purpose of preparingsurfaces and applying finishes.• Paints various surfaces (e.g. buildings, parking lot markings, floors, steps, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities inan attractive, safe, comfortable and operating condition.• Prepares various surfaces (e.g. cleaning, sanding, patches, masking, nail holes, cracks, joints, etc.) for the purpose ofensuring that they are ready for painting and/or refinishing.• Procures equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.• Removes graffiti (e.g. cleaning walls, graffiti removal, etc.) for the purpose of minimizing vandalism and maintainingattractive facilities.• Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required atjob site.Other Functions• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the workunit.Job Requirements: Minimum QualificationsSkills, Knowledge and AbilitiesSKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changingjob conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment usedin industrial painting including air spraying equipment, line spraying equipment, brushes, rollers, ladders, scaffolding, etc.;handling hazardous materials; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.Job Description: PainterPrinted 3/1/2007 Page 1


KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; readtechnical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems.Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: safety practices and procedures.ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; andconsider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety ofcircumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety ofstandardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-relateddata; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issuesand create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving withequipment is limited to moderate. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; settingpriorities; working as part of a team; and ability to read, write and communicate clearly in English.ResponsibilityResponsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; leading,guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other workunits is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the Organization’s services.Working EnvironmentThe usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significantlifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/orcrawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
