deposits ... reveals incredible levels of round worm infestation in most eastern cities [of the
United States] into the early 20th century' (H-Urban 7 March 1996). Claire Everett expresses
some reservations about these findings, arguing that the number of people who used the
privies analysed is unknown; pers. com. September 1996. The survival rate of parasite eggs
