This is mainly dueto operational and financial challenges faced bythe Company. The Company however continuesto emphasise on other training strategieslike on-the-job training, job rotation, specialassignments, coaching and mentoring and selfdevelopment.Tati Nickel subscribes to the Botswana TrainingAuthority (BOTA) and to this end pays a monthlylevy which is mandatory in accordance with thelegislation. The subscription entitles the Companyto claim back from BOTA for training that isaccredited with them or with other recognisedtraining authority bodies, not withstanding othertraining that may be deemed necessary for thecontinued operation of the Company.NkomatiNkomati also faces a shortage of middle andline managers and workers, like all its majorcontractors do. As a result of the explosivegrowth of mining operations in the southerncountries of Africa, including South Africa, asevere shortage of skilled specialists is felt in theregional workforce market.The company delivers three-month trainingprograms in basic operating skills to its coreproduction staff. Additional trainings are carriedout on an annual basis.Due to the particular focus of the South AfricanGovernment on occupational injury prevention,the company pays significant attention toprimary OHS training of its staff and continuousadditional training in safe work practices.▸▸Table 8.11.
