LCOE Briefs 3/9/12On Saturday, February 25, 2012 over 200 Lake County studentsand their parents attended the 4 th annual event focusing onmaking positive choices today to support many choices fortomorrow. The purpose of this all day event, hosted atKelseyville High School, is to guide students and their parents tomake choices in their lives to support their success towardcareer and college. This year our event brought a college fairewith representatives from various colleges and organizationsincluding, Sonoma State University, Humboldt State, OregonTechnical University, Mendocino Community College, YubaCommunity College, Athletic recruiting, Fashion Institute ofDesign and the Marines. Throughout the day students and theirparents had the opportunity to speak with these representativesas well as other guest speakers.Students selected their track ranging from culinary, biology,medical or art and algebra to focus their hands on activity.Throughout the day students spoke with college students, begantheir introductory essay for college applications and focused oninternet safety.The day ended with a celebratory raffle thanks to generousdonations from these community partners; Konocti Vista Casino,Twin Pine Casino, Sutter Wellness Center, Round Table Pizza,Cinema 5, Jimmy's Deli, and The Saw Shop Bistro. Studentsand parents shared their learning that the choices we maketoday, to support and participate in community service, taking theright courses in high school, and beginning the conversationsabout college early open many doors and make for more positivechoices in the future of our youth. Upward Youth! AdelanteJovenes.This event was successful in getting much needed informationpertaining to career and college into the hands of our studentsand families.
